Australia Ship Sim Center Opens

The Western Australian Minister for Ports, the Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLC opened the expanded facilities of HR Wallingford’s new Australia Ship Simulation Center.HR Wallingford has added two new purpose-built simulators to its center in Fremantle, bringing the total number of simulators that it owns and operates there to six. A new specialist Ship Simulation Center, based in Atwell Arcade, Fremantle, was officially opened on Thursday, February 9, 2017 by City of Fremantle Mayor Dr. Brad Pettitt. The Australia Ship Simulation Center, owned and operated by HR Wallingford, has moved into new premises from where it will continue to provide expert navigation consultancy and a dedicated pilot training center for Western Australia and the wider region. CCCC May Build Terminal in Sydney Harbour

China Communications Construction Co. Ltd (CCCC). has agreed to build a highly automated container terminal in Sydney Harbour, depending on the results of a feasibility study to be conducted next year. Albert Barbusci, CEO of Harbor Port Development Partners (HDP), said that his company, which has the exclusive right to market the port of Sydney, has signed a deal with China Communications Construction Company related to the design, construction and ownership of a deep-water container terminal in Sydney. It’s expected the multi-year development of the port will cost more than $1 billion. HDP also says discussions are underway on a potential equity stake in the project by the Chinese firm.

Port Design – Singapore Invites Entrants for US$ 1M Prize Competition

Performance, productivity, sustainability - achieve these three targets in order to win the Next Generation Container Port (NGCP) Challenge's top prize of USD1 million. Jointly organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI), the NGCP Challenge seeks to identify ideas that will achieve a quantum leap in port performance, productivity and sustainability for a new generation of container port that is set 10 years in the future. The NGCP Challenge was officially launched by Capt M Segar, MPA's Assistant Chief Executive (Operations). Registration for the international competition is open till 31 July 2012. Participants will have to submit their proposals by 31 December 2012.

Port Ops and Vessel Efficiency

According to the United Nations, the world’s population which currently stands at just over 6.7 billion could reach over nine billion by 2050. This staggering figure will no doubt create a surge in consumerism and a subsequent increase in demand for much larger ships, in order to be sufficiently equipped to support the global trade economy. Furthermore, the need for bigger vessels is being driven by the shipping companies’ desire to reduce costs, in order to weather the economic storm which still remains a worrying challenge.

Transas simulation solutions help to develop a plan of the New Container Terminal in MIP, Turkey

Dokuz Eylul University Maritime Faculty, Turkey has conducted a study to develop a new "East Mediterranean Container Terminal" in Mersin International Port (MIP) using Transas Simulation solutions. Yapı Proje Uygulama (YPU) that manage construction project of new container terminal chose the Dokuz Eylul University Maritime Faculty for this project after a comprehensive market research. Vice President of YPU Mr. Ali Ihsan GUNER stated: "Dokuz Eylul University Maritime Faculty has the most advanced simulation system and the most experienced academic staff for Port Design and Planning in Turkey".

RTM STAR Center Upgrades Full Mission Bridge Simulator

RTM STAR (Simulation, Training, Assessment and Research) Center has announced the upgrade and modernization of their 247 degree “field-of-view” Full Mission Bridge Simulator. The simulator is located at STAR Center’s Dania Beach, Fla., facility and is based on a design by Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems Inc. (KMSS). Following the successful upgrade of STAR Center’s 360 bridge with the Litton Sperry 2100 Integrated Bridge System in 1999, STAR Center is proud to announce the upgrade of its other Full Mission Bridge Simulator. The 247° Full Mission Bridge Simulator has been upgraded with KMSS equipment and features the capability to simulate Azipod® equipped vessels in addition to other traditional propulsion systems.
