New Dredge Delivered to Aid Al Hamriyah Port Expansion

Louisiana Announces $1.8 Billion Port Expansion Project

A public-private partnership between the state of Louisiana, the Port of New Orleans and two global maritime industry leaders will build a $1.8 billion container facility on the Lower Mississippi River, Gov. DP World Completes $520Mln Sokhna Expansion

Dubai's state-owned port operator DP World said that its port in Egypt, DP World Sokhna marked its 10th anniversary by revealing that its $520m (AED1.9bn) port expansion project is close to completion.The port expansion complements two operational basins, with the expansion into Basin 2 comprising a 1.3km-long quay – with 400m is use in Phase 1 – as well as a 350,000m2 container yard.The expansion comes as the UAE and Egypt agreed to support a $20bn joint strategic platform to invest in a range of vital sectors and assets, with ports and economic zones being an integral driver for global competitiveness and economic prosperity.Basin 1 is already operational with a capacity of 945,000 TEUs.

Tema Port T3 Welcomes First Cargo Vessel

The first commercial vessel, Maersk Cape Coast has docked at the Terminal 3 at Tema Port after 3 years of expansion and modernization works to complete the first two berths.The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, which operates the harbor is located along the Gulf of Guinea, said that with the state-of-the-art technology and equipment, 1,427 containers were discharged and 730 containers loaded.Incidentally, Maersk Cape Coast was inaugurated and christened at the port of Tema in 2011. Vessel Training Simulation at Tema Port

The first vessel has successfully docked at Tema Port’s new MPS Terminal 3, Ghana, said a statement from APM Terminals.The container vessel will be used for training purposes over the coming weeks, to ensure that the terminal runs smoothly from day one, when operations begin later this month on June 28.Chartering the test vessel will cost around 250,000 Dollars. Hapag-Lloyd Opens Ghana Office

German-based Hapag-Lloyd opened a new office in the Ghana port city Tema, on February 1, 2018. Effective immediately, the company will be represented at the local level by its own customer service staff. “Africa is strongly developing just now. To benefit from this growth, it’s important for us to strengthen our presence in Ghana with our own office – and to get even closer to our local customers,” said Lars Christiansen, Senior Managing Director of Hapag-Lloyd’s Region Middle East. West Africa has recorded significant growth in the last two years, with gross domestic product (GDP) rising by six percent on average. Among Ghana’s most important export goods are cocoa, timber products and cashew nuts.

Japanese FM Visits Colombo Port

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono has visited the port of Colombo in Sri Lanka. Kono was briefed by Sri Lankan government officials about a project under consideration to expand the port. The Japanese Foreign Minister  also visited the newly built control tower and the Colombo Port Expansion Project currently known as the Colombo south Port. Colombo is the largest port in Sri Lanka, which is a strategically important point in Indian Ocean sea lanes. Taro Kono was briefed by the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake about the project, the consideration to expand the facility and the ‘Three Year Plan’ that has currently been initiated to develop the Port of Colombo. The Japanese government has been involved in building port facilities there for many years.

Kolman assumed the mantle of leadership at IADC more than seven years ago, coming to the post from the landscape and garden trade association business.

Tema Port To Be Expanded

Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has launched the start of major expansion works at the Tema Port, near Accra, according to local reports. This ambitious project involves an upgrade and significant expansion of Ghana’s main seaport. The project is a Public Private Partnership between the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), representing the Ghana Government and Meridian Ports Services (MPS). The Port Of Tema Is the largest port in Ghana. Situated on the eastern coast of the country it stretches over a 3.9 million square metres of land area. The port receives an average of over 1650 vessel calls per year. These comprise container vessels, general cargo vessels, tankers, Ro-Ro and cruise vessels amongst many others.

San Pedro Port Expansion Project Awarded

Ivory Coast has awarded a project to upgrade its second port of San Pedro to global shipping giant Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and the Bilal Group, a government spokesman said on Wednesday.   Speaking after a cabinet meeting in the commercial capital Abidjan, Bruno Kone said MSC would invest 122 billion CFA francs ($209.14 million) and the Bilal Group 186 billion CFA francs ($318.83 million) under the build-operate-transfer deal.   (Reporting by Loucoumane Coulibaly)

Maersk to Boost Investments in Ghana

Maersk Group says it is committed to a long-term partnership with Ghana, and will boost its investments in the country. Accroding to local media report, the Maersk Group Chief Executive Officer, Nils S. Andersen, revealed that Maersk is interested in playing an active role in Ghana’s growth through investments in trade, infrastructure and energy. “Together with our partners, we have committed $1.5billion to the expansion of the port in Tema which would create probably the largest and most modern terminal in sub Saharan Africa. This will enable Ghana’s trade for the coming decades, and support more efficient flows of exports as well as imports” Andersen said. Nils S.

Maersk Mulls Port of Tema Expansion

Maersk Group is committed to support the expansion of the Port of Tema to the tune of US $1.5 billion, says Nils Smedegaard Andersen, Chief Executive Officer of Maersk Group. Maersk will also contribute its quota in the US$6 billion oil exploration work to be undertaken by Italian firm Eni Exploration in Ghana. Trellborg Delivers QRH for Herb Elliott Port Expansion

Trelleborg met a tight time frame to deliver its state-of-the-art Quick Release Hooks (QRHs) with load monitoring, remote release and a central monitoring system to the Herb Elliott Port in Australia. By delivering ahead of schedule and avoiding the need to equipment by air freight, Trelleborg said it save its customer, Fortescue Metals Group Limited (FMG), a substantial amount of money. After initially winning the contract to supply four units back in late 2011, Trelleborg Marine Systems was chosen to supply a further six earlier this year.

Mumbai Dredging Contract for Boskalis

Boskalis wins EUR 175-million port dredging contract in Mumbai, India. Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) is contracted by port operator Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) for deepening and widening the port and access channel of JNPT in Mumbai, India. The dredging work will commence in September 2012 and is expected to take two years to complete. The port expansion project requires the deepening and widening of the 33.5 kilometers' long access channel, the port basins and turning basins. In total, approximately 67 million cubic meters of sand, silt, clay and rock will be removed.

Port of Melbourne Plans Large Expansion

Premier Ted Baillieu and Minister for Ports Denis Napthine announce trade figures at the Port of Melbourne surged in the 2011-12 financial year with a 9.1 per cent overall increase at Australasia’s busiest container and general cargo port. Mr Baillieu said in the 2011-12 financial year total port trade grew to 87 million revenue tonnes up from 79.7 million revenue tonnes in the previous year. Dr Napthine said the Port Expansion Project would ensure the Port of Melbourne continued to be a key economic asset for the state for many decades to come. “The Port of Melbourne is an absolutely critical component of the Victorian economy, directly supporting about 14,000 jobs and many more indirect jobs throughout the state.

Wilhelmsen Supports Major Port Construction

Wilhelmsen Ships Service has secured a contract to provide ships agency services to Van Oord at Maasvlakte 2, the major port expansion project in Rotterdam. Land reclamation in the North Sea and dredging of the port basins will expand the existing port and industrial zone on the west side of Maasvlakte with 1000 hectares new land for port activities and industry. Up to 14 vessels operated by van Oord will be supporting the project and Wilhelmsen Ships Service will be managing the formalities of co-ordinating with port authorities, customs, immigration and other areas of port liaison.

Future of Pakistan Deep-Sea Port Touted

Leaders are touting development of Pakistan's first deep-sea port at Gwadar as a potentially potent engine for trade and other economic growth in the region, reported UPI. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz spoke at a ceremony marking the start-up of the nation's first desalination plant financed entirely from private sources. He added the new deep-water port will eventually be linked to Iran, the Pakistan Dawn newspaper reported. Aziz acknowledged that some of his countrymen are concerned that the port expansion project, which is to start next month, will draw people from other countries, changing Gwadar's demographics.
