Kalmar Hybrid RTGs for Argentina

Kalmar, the provider of cargo-handling solutions and services to ports and terminals,  is delivering two rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) with hybrid drivelines for Exolgan S.A. container terminal in Buenos Aires, Argentina.The order that follows the delivery of four hybrid RTGs to the terminal this December, was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q4 order intake with delivery scheduled to take place in late 2020, said a press release from the unit of Cargotec.The Exolgan terminal in Buenos Aires is a container-handling port terminal with strategic road, rail and river transport connections. Port Groups Join for Go Green Initiative

Five global container port operators have jointly undertaken a week-long initiative to promote sustainable resource usage  in their respective port and facility networks through mass recycling.During the fifth annual Go Green Initiative, 8,332 employees of DP World, Hutchison Ports, PSA International, Port of Rotterdam and Shanghai International Port Group collected a total of 1,966 kg of aluminium cans and 2,227 mobile phones for recycling.The choice of two very different waste products for collection and recycling was intentional.Aluminium cans are one of the most recyclable waste items, while mobile phones are e-waste that contain…

Carriers Playing Poker with Ports

Container shipping lines are in danger of putting future port investment at risk in their demands for terminal handling cost reductions, according to the recently launched Ports and Terminals Insight report published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. Terminal operators face a “perfect storm” of rising costs due to bigger ships, greater business risks from larger liner alliances, softening global demand growth and pressure on terminal handling prices from cash-strapped carriers. The financial results of listed port and terminal operators reveal a weakness in organic earnings amid escalating debt levels. Stricter cost rationalisation and financial risk reduction will be necessary to retain investment interest.

PSA Singapore Named Best Seaport in Asia

Port operator PSA International was named the best global container terminal operating firm for the second year running, in the 2016 Asian Freight, Logistics & Supply Chain Awards held in Shanghai. PSA also received the “Best Container Terminal – Asia (Over 4 million TEUs)" award. “The Port of Singapore clinched the award for its leading performance on a range of criteria including cost competitiveness, container shipping-friendly fee regime, provision of suitable containing shipping-related infrastructure, timely and adequate investment in new infrastructure to meet future demand and the facilitation of ancillary services,” the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a press release.

PSA International Starts VC Arm

Singapore-headquartered port operator PSA International Pte Ltd has set up a corporate venture capital arm, PSA unboXed, with an initial fund size of S$20 million ($14.66 million) to invest in startups. PSA said it would seek to invest in companies developing logistics solutions, including robotics and automation in container and cargo handling operations. "Through PSA unboXed, we want to encourage creative ideas that can improve and revamp logistics technology, increase port productivity and enhance the integration, security and performance across the constituents of global supply chain logistics," Group Chief Executive Tan Chong Meng said in a statement. PSA counts itself among the world's largest port groups, with involvement in around 40 terminals in 16 countries.

PSA International Ventures into South-Western China

PSA International (PSA) established itself as the first and only Global Terminal Operator in the Guangxi-Beibu Gulf region by signing a Joint Venture Agreement with Beibu Gulf Port Group (BPG) and Pacific International Lines (PIL) to operate a new container terminal in Qinzhou City (Guangxi Province, China) - BEIBU GULF-PSA International Container Terminal Co., Ltd (BPCT). The joint venture terminal is PSA’s first foray in the South-Western China region – one of the fastest growing economic regions in China. Accessible to Southeast Asia by land and sea, the region has been earmarked by the Chinese government as a key area for coastal development and collaboration with ASEAN countries.

New Colombia Container Port to be Developed

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. ("ICTSI") and PSA International Pte. Ltd. ("PSA"), through their  subsidiaries, have signed an agreement to jointly develop, construct and operate the container port terminal and ancillary facilities located in the Peninsula of Aguadulce, Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The agreement involves PSA´s investment in Sociedad Puerto Industrial Aguadulce S.A., an indirect subsidiary of ICTSI, which holds the 30-year concession for the Aguadulce Port Project granted by the Agencia Nacional de Infraestructura of Colombia.

Port Hosts 2nd Annual Career Day

The Port of Hueneme held a Maritime Career Exploration Day at the Port on Wednesday. Attendees came to meet and talk with representatives of a half dozen companies doing business at the Port, groups that represented everything from a major shipping line to GAPS, an automobile processors. The event was held at the Port’s newly renovated Joint Operations and Security Center just outside the Port’s main entrance. In addition to the table displays, presentations were made by representatives of Del Monte, which imports fresh fruit through the Port, the Port administration and a recruiter for the National Maritime Academy at Kingspoint New York. The Career Exploration Day was the brainchild of Commissioner Jason Hodge.

Peel Ports, JCB and Briggs Partner Across Supply Chain

Briggs Equipment is helping Peel Ports Liverpool to maintain the nation's supply of animal feed after securing a multi-million pound contract to supply and service JCB equipment to one of the country's busiest ports. One of Britain's largest port groups, the Peel Ports Group operates five major gateways, handling a broad spectrum of international trade amounting to more than 65 million tons of cargo a year. The Peel Ports facility in Liverpool is home to the country's largest animal feed store and as a result has taken delivery of five new JCB wheel loaders supplied by Briggs.
