Jan De Nul Completes Guayaquil

After nine months of dredging, Jan De Nul Group has reached an important first milestone by completing the deepening of the 95 km long access channel to the port in record time.The Municipality of Guayaquil (Ecuador) officially inaugurated its newly deepened maritime access channel last weekend, by welcoming the first Neo-Panamax vessel APL Esplanade in the port.Jan De Nul Group will now operate and maintain the channel under this 25-year concession contract. The total investment of the deepening and maintenance dredging works will be recuperated by collecting a transit fee.The arrival of the giant APL Esplanade marks a historical milestone for the Ecuadorian Port of Guayaquil.

Jan De Nul Starts Dredging for Mauritian Port

Jan De Nul group of the beginning of work on dredging and expansion on an internal ship canal and a turning circle in port of Nouadhibou (Mauritania), one of the largest centers through which iron ore from the country is exported, is told in the group message.With the deepening and widening of the 25-km long entrance channel to the mineral terminal of Port of Nouadhibou, the National Industrial and Mineral Authority of Mauritania (Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière or SNIM) opens the port for vessels with a capacity of up to 250,000 tonnes.One of Jan De Nul’s largest Cutter Suction Dredgers Zheng He arrived in the first week of October on site.

Jan De Nul NV expands Jamaican Port

Jan De Nul NV is part of a consortium that is responsible for the expansion of the port of Kingston. In 25 months the access channel and the port basin will be deepened, and the berths on the existing quay walls will be reinforced and renovated. Hence, the port will be able to provide access to larger container vessels , which will find their way to the region more easily thanks to the expansion of the lock complex in the Panama Canal. For the dredging activities Jan De Nul NV will mobilize 6 vessels, namely the cutter suction dredger Marco Polo with four accompanying split barges and the trailing suction hopper dredger Pedro Alvares Cabrál. It is the fourth project in Jamaica for Jan De Nul.

Golden Magnolia Award for Antwerp Port Rep.

Jan Van der Borght, the representative of the port of Antwerp in Shanghai, has been presented with the Golden Magnolia Award. Two years ago he won the Silver Magnolia Award, so that now he is only the second Belgian and the first representative of a foreign port to receive both the Silver and Golden awards. The Magnolia Awards are an initiative of the Bureau of Foreign Affairs and are presented to foreigners living in Shanghai who have made a particular contribution to the economic development and international standing of the city. In past years Van Der Borght has among other things helped to develop relations between the Shanghai Maritime University and the University of Antwerp, and between the China Maritime Museum and the MAS Museum in Antwerp.

MSC Ships Depart as Another Arrives

The two Military Sealift Command (MSC) ships that were moored at the North Carolina State Port here are now on their way to an undisclosed location. In their place, a third MSC ship has taken residence at the port in the continued military outload efforts. The USNS Red Cloud, a 950-foot large medium speed roll on/roll off ship, arrived at the state port Sunday morning to commence another outload phase. The ship has approximately 300,000 square feet of cargo space. Security remains high in the vicinity of the port, on land and in the Cape Fear River. The waterway security zones that were put into effect last week with the arrival of the U.S. Naval ships Denebola and Regulus will remain in effect for the USNS Red Cloud.
