NYK LNG Carrier Rescues Sailors in Caribbean
Marvel Falcon, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier owned by NYK, offered humanitarian assistance to four sailors requesting rescue on on May 13, said a press release from the company. The LNG carrier had been sailing from the port of Balboa, Panama, to the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in the U.S. state of Louisiana when the small boat was spotted. The rescued sailors had departed from Port Limon, Costa Rica, on May 7 to deliver fuel to another boat, but they experienced engine trouble on May 8 and had drifted at sea for the next few days. The four sailors were in good health, and on May 18 they disembarked from Marvel Falcon at Sabine Pass to be processed by relevant authorities.

Details of the rescue follow: At 08:50 (all times in local time) on January 20, 2016, the TRIUMPH ACE, sailing from the Port of Mazatlán, Mexico to Port of Balboa, Panama found a drifting person and immediately changed course to approach the castaway, and started rescue operations. At 10:48 of the same day, the survivor was safely rescued. At 13:45 of the same day, the survivor was turned over to a ship of the Mexican Navy.

Panama Canal Infrastructure to be Valued by VRC
Leading provider of independent valuations, Valuation Research Corporation (VRC) says it has been engaged by the Panama Canal Authority to value the locks, dams, power plants and other structures of the canal for insurance purposes. This is VRC’s second valuation engagement with the authority. In 2004, VRC was engaged to provide a comprehensive valuation in connection with financing the Canal’s expansion. “We are very pleased to once again work with the Panama Canal Authority,” said Richard Nordberg, Managing Director. Hamburg Süd Expands in West Coast Central America
Effective from 4 September 2011, Hamburg Süd will expand its coverage of West Coast Central America by joining APL in a two loop service concept (WECA). - String 1 (WCX – WECA1) will deploy three vessels of 1.300 TEU nominal capacity and has the following port rotation: Balboa – Puerto Quetzal – Lazaro Cardenas – La Union – Puerto Caldera – Balboa – Paita – Guayaquil – Balboa. Hamburg Süd will be providing one vessel. - String 2 (MCX – WECA2) will deploy one vessel of 1.100 TEU nominal capacity and has the following port rotation: Lazaro Cardenas – Acajutla - Puerto Quetzal – Lazaro Cardenas. The new service allows for a more comprehensive coverage connecting the growing market of West Coast Central America to the Hamburg Süd network.

Boskalis Extends Container Port at Panama Canal Entrance
Boskalis extends container port at Panama Canal entrance Dredging company Royal Boskalis Westminster has won a contract for the extension of the container port of Balboa, Panama, at the Pacific mouth of the Panama Canal. The work is expected to be completed in 15 months. The contract is worth approximately $67.1m. The project will be executed for Panama Ports Company S.A., a member of the Hutchison Port Holding Group of Hong Kong. The work includes the construction of additional port area, a retaining rock dike and a link structure to the existing berths 16 and 17. Boskalis will deploy its American trailing suction hopper Stuyvesant, a large backhoe and a few transport barges for this job. The civil works will be executed by the Panamanian partner Intercoastal Marine Inc.
