Wagenborg Installs Shore Power Connection on Kroonborg Vessel

Wagenborg Offshore has installed and commissioned a shore connection system on the Kroonborg walk-to-work (W2W) vessel in collaboration with NAM/Shell UK, and the support of Dutch province of North Holland.The shore power system was developed and engineered by Dutch company Eekels Technology.Additionally, Eekels Technology, in partnership with the Port of Den Helder, is advancing a hydrogen shore power generator project in cooperation with the Port of Harlingen and Groningen Seaports.The hydrogen generator is set to become operational by the end of 2023.

Crew Transfer Firm OceanXpress Taps Peterson for Agency Services

Energy logistics provider Peterson has won a logistics contract with OceanXpress, a recently formed joint venture between Dutch companies Damen and Ampelmann.Damen Shipyards and offshore gangway specialist Ampelmann launched the joint venture last month to provide offshore crew change solutions in the North Sea area.Now, Peterson will deliver ship agency services for OceanXpress' Aqua Helix vessel, which will use the Port of Den Helder as its main port of operation.Mark Hol, Business Unit Manager at Peterson, said: “We’re delighted to  welcome the Aqua Helix to the Port of Den Helder and be no

Fast and Comfortable: Damen, Ampelmann in Crew Change Joint Venture

Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards and offshore gangway specialist Ampelmann have launched the joint venture OceanXpress to provide offshore crew change solutions in the North Sea area. SeaMar OSV Deep Helder Hired by MMT

The SeaMar Group said its offshore support vessel Deep Helder has been hired on a six-month contract to support seabed mapping work for MMT. Shell Netherlands CEO Christens Wagenborg's W2W Vessel

The second Walk to Work vessel in the fleet of Wagenborg Offshore was unveiled on the Nieuwediepkade in the port of Den Helder. The Walk to Work Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel Kasteelborg was christened by Mrs. Marjan van Loon, CEO Shell Netherlands.Kasteelborg will serve as standby and support vessel in collaboration with the Kroonborg, which was commissioned almost three years ago, with maintenance of the unmanned platforms on the southern North Sea.Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) and Shell UK Exploration & Production (Shell UK) have signed a 6-year agreement with Wagenborg Offshore for the deployment of this second 'Walk-to-Work Vessel' (W2W).The Kasteelborg is similar in size to Kroonborg, but her activities are different in nature.

Fleet Cleaner Completes Its First Job

Dutch company Fleet Cleaner said it has completed its first hull cleaning trial in December 2016 in the Dutch port of Den Helder, using a robot to clean the hull of HNLMS Karel Doorman, the largest vessel of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Fleet Cleaner deployed a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to remove fouling on the vessel’s hull – both under- and above-water. Due to loading and unloading, up to 20 percent of the fouled surface can be above the waterline in port. Hybrid RoPax Ferry Delivered to Royal TESO

Hybrid RoPax ferry Texelstroom has been delivered to Koninklijke N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming (Royal TESO). This latest generation symmetrical ferry is powered by efficient, medium speed dual fuel engines of Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC). Texelstroom will be responsible for transporting up to 1,750 passengers and 350 vehicles between the port of Den Helder and the island of Texel. Royal TESO announced on May 8, 2014 that it had signed an agreement with the northern Spanish shipyard LaNaval for the construction of a new ferry.

Dutch Ports to Appeal EC Tax Decision

The Port of Rotterdam Authority, together with the Amsterdam Port Authority, Groningen Seaports, the Moederdijk Port Authority, the Port of Den Helder and Zeeland Seaports, is going to appeal against the decision of the European Commission which states that Dutch sea ports must pay corporation tax from January 1, 2017. Paul Smits, Financial Director of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, said, “We are not against paying corporation tax, but then it should apply to all European sea ports. Damen Delivers Hybrid Tug to Netherlands Navy

The first of a series of three ASD TUGs 2810 Hybrid was navigated into the Den Helder harbor by the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) on Saturday, February 20. This hybrid tug that bears the name Noordzee is almost 29 meters long and is the first standard hybrid tug supplied by Damen that the RNLN will employ. At this time, the RNLN has four conventional tugs in Den Helder at its disposal. However, these older vessels do not have sufficient power to tug new ships such as the HNLMS Karel Doorman, HNLMS Rotterdam and the HNLMS Johan de Witt.

Dutch "Disappointed" with EU Port Tax Edict

The Dutch Finance Ministry said on Thursday it was "disappointed" with an EU Commission order to do away with corporate tax exemptions for six ports, including Rotterdam, Europe's largest. The measure puts the Netherlands at a disadvantage, the government said in a statement, calling on the Commission to ensure fair competition. European Union regulators told Dutch authorities on Thursday to scrap a corporate tax exemption for the ports and also ordered Belgium and France to align their port taxation systems with the bloc's state aid rules. "The Commission's decisions today regarding the Netherlands, Belgium and France make clear that if port operators generate profits from economic activities these should be taxed," European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said.

Floating Tidal Energy Platform Up and Running

The first months of operating the BlueTEC tidal energy platform have been a success, according to the BlueTEC Texel Tidal partnership: with every tidal flow, the platform supplies electricity into the Dutch national grid. The success has led project partners to work toward developing plans for the installation of a second, larger turbine. “Getting the platform from the drawing board to a grid-connected operating reality in just six months is amazing,” said Allard van Hoeken, Head of New Energy at Bluewater Energy Services and recent recipient of the first Prince Friso Engineers Award.

Shipdock Yards Adopt Damen Names

On January 1, 2015, Shipdock Amsterdam and Shipdock Harlingen changed names to Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSA) and Damen Shiprepair Harlingen (DSH) respectively. During the last two years, both yards have successfully integrated into Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC), itself part of the Damen Shipyards Group. For example, the close collaboration between DSH and Damen Shipyards Den Helder (DSDH) strongly highlights how customers benefit from the network of yards. Damen Shipyards Group acquired the two Shipdock yards in February 2013.

LaNaval lays Keel of Ferry Texelstroom

LaNaval Shipyard in Spain has laid the keel of the ferry Texelstroom on the 30th of December, that is building for the dutch company Royal N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming (TESO), located in the island of Texel, at the north of The Netherlands. The ferry, which will be named “Texelstroom” is a new generation vessel for the transportation of up to 1,750 persons and 350 vehicles. She will have a dimensions of 135 meters length and 28 meters width and will be equipped with the latest technologies in the market, making a breakthrough in energy consumption and environment friendship. So, the Ferry will be powered by diesel-oil or alternatively Natural Gas, being helped also by electric batteries that will form an integral part of the advance energy management system.
