IHC Delivers New Dredge to Cameroon's Port of Douala

Royal IHC said it handed over the 3,000m³ trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Mont Mandara to Cameroon’s Port Authority of Douala (PAD) on August 20. The delivery completes the PAD fleet, following its acquisition of an IHC Beaver 50 cutter suction dredger and a DMC workboat in 2019.The new TSHD is an IHC Easydredge from IHC’s standardized range of dredging vessels suited for common maintenance and land reclamation projects. The Mont Mandara offers flexibility to PAD as it can be customized to adapt to its dedicated working environment.

Douala Port Authority Orders IHC Dredger

Cameroon’s Port Authority of Douala (PAD) has acquired high-tech equipment from Royal IHC to support its dredging activities, an order that builds on the excellent partnership between both organizations.As part of measures to autonomously manage its dredging activities, the Management of the PAD acquired an IHC Beaver 50 cutter suction dredger and a Delta Multi Craft (DMC) workboat, which were both delivered in 2019. This first order will soon be completed by an IHC Easydredge trailing suction hopper dredger with a 3,000-cubic-meter hopper capacity.

Seamen Kidnapped off Cameroon's Coast

A number of seamen have been kidnapped after an attack on their vessel off the coast of Cameroon in West Africa's piracy-plagued Gulf of Guinea, a source in the Cameroonian army and a source at the major port of Douala said on Friday.In July, the International Maritime Bureau described the Gulf of Guinea as the most dangerous area in the world for piracy with 73% of all sea kidnappings and 92% of hostage-takings taking place there.The army source declined to give details on the number and nationality of the hostages or the name of their ship."I'm waiting until I know for sure," he said.

Douala Cameroon, Antwerp Join Hands

The ports of Antwerp and Douala in Cameroon are to collaborate closely with each other over the next five years. The collaboration agreement was signed on Wednesday this week during an extensive visit by Antwerp port representatives to the port of Douala in Cameroon. Douala port authority  is counting on the Antwerp know-how in order to boost the efficiency of its port operations, among other things. For Antwerp the agreement represents a way to maintain and further strengthen its position as market leader in West and Central Africa. CMA CGM Signs Pact with Port of Kribi

The CMA CGM Group is pleased to announce that on July 25, 2017, the official signing ceremony for the concession agreement of the new container terminal was held in Kribi, Cameroon, chaired by the Minister for Transport, Edgar Alain Mébé Ngo’o. Cameroon Awards Kribi Deepwater Contract

Cameroon has awarded a contract for its Kribi port to a consortium led by French logistics group Necotrans, the two parties said. The deepwater port will allow for the import and export of raw materials such as timber and cotton as well as vehicles and service equipment for Cameroon's oil and gas sector. A contract for the Kribi container port was awarded to a Bollore-led consortium last week. The government is rushing to get Kribi operational to ease congestion on the port of Douala, 150 kilometres to the north. "As the only deepwater port in Central Africa, Kribi will be the economic lifeblood for Cameroon and the region, notably Chad and the Central African Republic," Necotrans President Gregory Querel said in a statement.

CMA CGM Launches West Africa Logistics Hub

French maritime transporter CMA CGM has opened a logistics complex, between the port and city of Douala, Cameroon, and set up a new firm to handle inland transportation in West African markets. Christened 3CTC (CMA CGM Cameroon Container Terminal), the terminal covers a surface area of 2 hectares. Douala port is Cameroon's largest port. Located between the ring road of Douala and the port area, this "dry port" will enable CMA CGM customers to store containers, empty or full, in a secure area of 1200 m2. The new logistics platform also serves as a transportation hub for goods by land, Cameroon and to Chad and the Central African Republic. 3CTC was given to CMA CGM as a part of a 25-year deal. US MSC Chartered 'Swift' on African Partnership Mission

Military Sealift Command-chartered High Speed Vessel 'Swift' begins week of Africa Partnership Station (APS) in Port of Douala, Cameroon. Swift's Military Detachment Officer-in-Charge Lt.Cmdr. Brad Fillius met with the various leaders of the commands and departments that will be impacted the most by the APS events scheduled for the week. "These visits remind us of the importance of the sea; paying attention to the sea is a new way of thinking for us," said Capt. Lucien Dzou, commander Douala Naval Base. The visits allowed for an exchange of information on the APS program which includes the classroom instruction that began Monday with courses on port security, Marine Corps martial arts, non-commissioned officer leadership, and maritime domain awareness and oil platform protection classes.

CMA CGM Launches New Asia-W. Africa Service

CMA CGM Group launched a new direct service linking Asia to West Africa, effective August 3, 2011. Named WAX II, this new service will be operated in partnership with CSAV and will deploy 10 vessels from 2,500 TEUs up to 3,100 TEUs (5 CMA CGM vessels, 5 CSAV vessels). Bourbon Sagitta Crew Kidnapped

On October 31, at about 12:00 a.m., a number of armed men in 3 fly boats, boarded the Bourbon Sagitta, an Anchor Handling Tug Support vessel assisting loading operations of crude oil from a field off the Bakasi Peninsula (180 kms from Douala). 10 of the 15 crew members (2 Cameroonians, 1 Tunisian, 1 Senegalese and 6 French seamen) were kidnapped. No one was injured. The ship and the staff still on board are now safe. Child Slave Ship Arrives in Benin

Police, aid workers and government officials gathered in Benin's port of Cotonou on Tuesday to await a ship suspected to be carrying scores of child slaves. The Nigerian-registered MV Eterino has been at the center of a frantic international search since Benin alerted the world last week that it was carrying a suspected 180 children, sold by poor families to work for nothing in oil-rich Gabon. "I am relieved that the boat is coming after four days," Benin's social protection minister said.
