Louis Meyer Orders Damen’s Compact ASD Tug 2111

Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer GmbH & Co. KG of Hamburg has placed an order with Damen Shipyards for the one of the first of its next generation ASD Tug 2111 class. The vessel will be operated on a long-term charter by Emder Schlepp-Betrieb GmbH (ESB) for operations in its home port of Emden, one of the top three ports in Europe for car shipping. Boskalis Nets Three Dredging Deals in Germany

Dutch dredging giant Boskalis has secured three dredging contracts worth 45 million euros (around USD 53,1 million) in total for coastal protection and port maintenance activities in Germany.The first contract was awarded by the German Waterways and Shipping Office WSA Weser-Jade-Nordsee. It is for the upgrade of the existing coastal defense on the island of Wangerooge for flood protection to the island’s residents.Boskalis said the project would be executed with a local German partner and involves the reinforcement of the groins and revetment for which 200,000 tons of rock will be used.

Damen Christens New Tug for Louis Meyer

A naming ceremony was held at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem for the new tug Peter Wessels on August 14, just four months after the vessel was ordered by Hamburg-based Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer GmbH & Co. KG (Louis Meyer).The accelerated delivery was made possible by Damen’s long-standing policy of both offering a wide range of standard designs that can then be customized to meet the exact needs of each customer, and of building for stock to guarantee fast deliveries.

Video: Meyer Werft Floats Out Spirit of Adventure

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft floated out Spirit of Adventure, the second new cruise ship it has built for British company Saga Cruises.The 58,250 GT cruise ship left the shipyard's covered building dock I (hall 5) on Friday, allowing the funnel to be lifted onto the ship by crane and mounted. The vessel underwent several tests before berthing at the outfitting pier where it will undergo additional testing and interior outfitting over coming weeks before sea trials and delivery later this year.Meyer Werft said the luxury liner is scheduled to start her passage from the Papenburg…

French Shipyard Bernard Delivers Second Pilot Boat

On May 3, 2012, Fresena, an 18 meter pilot boat will be delivered to Lotsenversetzboote Technische Fachstelle Nordwest pilots. After delivery, this unit is the second in a series of 4 vessels for German pilots. Marc Bernard, technical director of the Beranrd shipyard says: "The prototype of the pilot boat named Frya has been operating for almost a year in the area of Borkum from the port of Emden. It has proven highly satisfactory in particular on its behavior at sea in rough weather.
