Singapore and Japan Agree Green Shipping Corridor

NYK Tests Biofuels on Australian Voyage

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), NYK Group’s Asahi Shipping, and Kobe Steel have announced a successful trial run of biofuels on a voyage between Japan and Australia.The companies supplied biofuel via ship-to-ship transfer to the bulk carrier Sunrise Serenity at the port of Kobe in Japan. Australian Government Highlights Nation’s Green Hydrogen Ambition

The Australian government has released its annual State of Hydrogen report, saying it reinforces that Australia has the foundations to become a global leader in green hydrogen.The report illustrates local industry is advancing hydrogen as a chemical feedstock and for export to generate electricity, but there’s an urgent need to speed up priority pilot projects and hydrogen hubs to compete internationally.In 2022, more than 100 Australian green hydrogen projects such as green ammonia and green methanol manufacturing were announced.

Inside Ishin, the LNG-Fueled Tugboat

In May 2017, MOL decided to build an LNG-fueled tugboat that would be operated by Nihon Tug-Boat Co., Ltd. It was built by Kanagawa Dockyard Co., Ltd., has dual-fueled engines from Yanmar Co., Ltd., and runs on LNG supplied by Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. The LNG-fueled tugboat, called Ishin, was delivered in February of 2019, and was featured in the December 2019 edition of Maritime Reporter & Engineering News as a Great Ships of 2019.Ishin is Japan’s first tugboat built to conform to the International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code).

MOL Trials LNG-Fuelled Tugboat at Kobe

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has taken part in the first bunkering of liquefied natural gas (LNG) into a tugboat at the Port of Kobe, Japan.At the Port of Kobe, the tugboat “Ishin” was bunkered with LNG. It is the first LNG-fuelled tugboat in Japan and it is operated by a MOL group subsidiary, Nihon Tug-Boat.LNG fuel for the trial was hauled by a tanker truck from the Himeji LNG Plant of Osaka Gas, and, via a truck-to-ship system, was used to supply Ishin, berthed at Kobe Port’s Shinko Pier No.4. MOL Tabletop Drill Prepares for Major Offshore Incident

Mitsui O.S.K.Lines, Ltd. today announced that, in cooperation with the Japan’s 7th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, the company conducted a tabletop drill based on a scenario in which the cruise ship Nippon Maru, operated by its group company, Mitsui O.S.K. Passenger Line, Ltd. collided with another containership while under way on the Kanmonpassage. The scenario also included injuries to some on board and flooding of the Nippon Maru’s engine room. The drill was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, with the goal of strengthening MOL's emergency response structure, which is based on the MOL Group Corporate Principles – protecting the environment by maintaining strict, safe operation and navigation standards.

OOCL Yokohama Named at Geoje Shipyard

OOCL announced the christening of its second in line of the sixteen 4,578-TEU vessels, ordered with Samsung Heavy Industries since 2004. The newbuilding was named the m.v. OOCL Yokohama, by sponsor Dr. Jane C K Chan, the wife of Prof. Yue-Chim Richard Wong, Provost of the University of Hong Kong at the Geoje Shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea. The m.v. OOCL Yokohama will be deployed under the AEA1 service, after its initial deployment in KTX1 service in the Intra-Asia region, providing a vital link between Asia and Australia. The OOCL Yokohama’s port rotation is : Kaohsiung / Hong Kong/ Shanghai / Chiwan / Hong Kong / Sydney / Melbourne / Brisbane and back to Kaohsiung in a 35-day round trip.
