Angola Protects Marine Environment

A national workshop on the treaty covering dumping of wastes at sea, the London Protocol, is being held in Luanda, Angola (30-31 May). The workshop is raising awareness among stakeholders on the practical aspects of effective implementation of the London Protocol to protect the marine environment from the dumping of harmful wastes at sea. With more light being shed on the dramatic impact of marine litter on coastal areas, this workshop is yet another example of how International Maritime Organization (IMO)  is tackling this problem. Angola ratified the London Protocol in 2006 and this workshop is bringing a special focus on the actions to be taken at the national level to fully implement all its provisions.

CMA CGM Improves SAMWAF Service

CMA CGM announced the port coverage improvement of its SAMWAF service connecting Brazil and Plata area to West Africa and South Africa strategic markets, in the effort to continue enhancing its product.   As from February 16th, 2018 with m/v GERHARD SCHULTE, the lead product SAMWAF service operated with 6 vessels up to 3,800 TEU.   SAMWAF will call the port of Itajai, Brazil on a weekly basis, in replacement of Navegantes. Argentina and Uruguay ports will be served on relay via Itajai   New rotation: Itajai - Paranagua - Santos - Rio de Janeiro - Cape Town - Durban - Port Elizabeth - Luanda - Pointe Noire - Itajai

Fairmount Fuji Assists Octomar Dive Team

Fairmount Marine’s multipurpose support vessel Fairmount Fuji has supported Angolan maritime service provider Octomar Serviços Maritimos in underwater maintenance of the drilling rig Transocean Rather. OTAL Upgrades West African Shipping Services

OT Africa Line (OTAL) has announced a number of developments to its West African Ro-Ro and container services designed to give customers access to a greater number of ports. The changes will also provide improved transit times and more frequent sailings to ensure even more extensive transport coverage of the trade to and from this region. OTAL continues to operate its established multipurpose Ro-Ro service but with the addition of a restructured improved all-round schedule called the ‘Express Service’. Four multi-purpose Ro-Ro/container vessels - Kumasi, Kintampo, Katia, and Kagoro - will be utilized to provide sailings every 11 days (previously 13 days) catering for general cargo, containers, project cargo loads, and rolling stock.
