USS Little Rock Helps the Homeless in Montreal

A group of American sailors stuck in Montreal for the winter are pitching in to help the local community. The U.S. Navy’s new Freedom-variant littoral combat ship, USS Little Rock (LCS 9), which was originally scheduled to sail for its home port in Mayport, Fla. after its December 2017 commissioning in Buffalo, N.Y., is spending the winter in Montreal due to worse than expected weather and ice in the St. Lawrence Seaway. While in Montreal, the ship’s crew continues to focus on training, readiness and certifications, while also giving back to the local community through volunteer service.

The U.S. Navy’s newest Freedom-variant littoral combat ship, the USS Little Rock, will spend the winter stuck in Montreal due to worse than expected weather and ice in the St. Lawrence Seaway. USS Little Rock (LCS 9) was commissioned in Buffalo, N.Y. on December 16, after which the $440 million warship was scheduled to sail for its home port in Mayport, Fla. Instead, the Navy has decided to wait until weather conditions improve before allowing the ship to continue its voyage, according to The Canadian Press.

Bath Iron Works Awarded $18m Contract for Farragut

The U.S. Navy awarded a $17.9m contract to Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics to perform Post-Shakedown Availability (PSA) maintenance, repair and upgrade work for the Arleigh Burke-class Guided Missile Destroyer USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99). Work on the ship is scheduled to begin in February 2007 and will be performed by a Bath Iron Works - Atlantic Dry Dock Corporation Team in Atlantic's facilities near the ship's home port of Mayport, Fla. Services to be provided include engineering and management services; labor and procurement of material for system upgrades and to correct government-responsible deficiencies; performance of specified PSA work items, including tests and post-repair sea trials; and additional tasking to complete emergent repairs.
