WFW Advises Italian Shipowners on Partnership with Gigilinis
International law firm Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) advised three leading Italian shipowners -Rimorchiatori Mediterranei, Gesmar and Fratelli Neri – on their partnership agreement with Thessaloniki-based Greek maritime operator Gigilinis Shipping Group. The deal closed on 29 November. The deal represents a strategic milestone in Italian ship owners’ expansion into the Greek and broader Eastern Mediterranean markets, most notably into the key port of Thessaloniki. Rimorchiatori Mediterranei is the leading player in the harbour towage sector in Italy, and number two in the Mediterranean, operating a modern fleet of more than 100 tugs and other units, equipped with advanced technology. In 2016 it generated revenues of around €110m.
Liebherr: Italian Deliveries Reached a Record Level in 2016
Last year Liebherr Maritime Cranes delivered nine mobile harbor cranes, four reachstackers, three rail mounted gantry cranes and one ship-to-shore container crane to various Italian ports. Since Liebherr has been engaged in the manufacturing of maritime cargo handling equipment, Italian ports proved to be reliable and valuable partners. The first mobile harbor crane was already delivered in 1974 and over the years the maritime cargo handling fleet operating in Italy has constantly been increased.
First ‘Reachstacker’ Starts Duty in the Port of Ravenna
Liebherr Maritime Cranes delivered a LRS 545, the first model out of the new reachstacker series, to the Italian Port of Ravenna. The Port of Ravenna is one of the most frequented Eastern Mediterranean hubs and plays an important role in handling solid bulk commodities, in particular raw materials for the ceramic, grain, fertilizer and flour industry. Merchant Ships Collide, Six Feared Dead
Two people drowned and four were missing at sea and feared dead after two merchant ships collided in rough seas off the Italian coast on Sunday, Italian officials said. A Turkish ship with 11 crew members sank after the collision with a vessel carrying a Belize flag in poor visibility a mile from the Italian Adriatic port of Ravenna, a coastguard official said. The mayor of Ravenna Fabrizio Matteucci said on Italian state television that the dead and missing were all Turkish men from the ship Gokbel which sank after the collision with the Belize-flagged Lady Aziza at around 0800 GMT. The Italian marine operator Bambini, based at the Port of Ravenna, operates an extensive fleet of vessels in support of the offshore industry. These range from tugs, to supply boats and crew boats. The latter, mostly in the 30 to 35-mrange, have been imported from US builders. Recently they launched their first Fast Supply Vessel, the 51.75 by 9.2-meter Blue Daddy, from the Cantieri Navail Vittoria in Adria on the Canal Bianco about 25 kilometers up from the Adriatic Sea along the River Po in north-eastern Italy.
