Port of Tallinn Enacts New Rules for Hull Cleaning

YIT Eesti to Build Tallinn Cruise Terminal

Estonian port authority Port of Tallinn (Tallinna Sadam) has signed an agreement with compatriot construction company YIT Eesti AS for the construction of new cruise terminal in Tallinn Old City Harbour.The value of the contract is EUR 13.7 million. Trelleborg's Automoor for Port of Tallinn

Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation has been awarded a contract to install its rope-free automated mooring system, AutoMoor, at the Old City Harbor at the Port of Tallinn, which is the biggest harbor in Estonia and one of the busiest passenger harbors in the world.In first quarter of 2020, Trelleborg will install six units of its AutoMoor T40 Twin Arm at the Old City Harbor’s Berth 13 cruise ferry wharf to facilitate faster berthing processes and improve safety levels within the port environment.

Elenger Begins LNG bunkering in Helsinki

Estonian Port Offers Discounts to Green Ships

Port of Tallinn Freight Volume Grows to 5mln Tons in Q1

In the first quarter of 2018, 5.01 million tons of cargo and 1.92 million passengers passed through the harbours of Port of Tallinn. The cargo volume increased by 0.3 % and passenger number by 0.2 % compared to the same period last year. According to Port of Tallinn’s CEO Valdo Kalm the comparison of the results of the first quarter shows a positive sign in cargo volume in a long time. "The decline in cargo volume has stopped and even shows a slight increase, mainly due to the growth of ro-ro and dry-bulk goods transported through the harbours of Port of Tallinn. In the passenger traffic between the mainland and major islands, Port of Tallinn’s subsidiary TS Laevad Ltd. served 325,600 passengers and 154,000 vehicles in the first quarter of the year.

Leaking Bulk Carrier Towed into Tallinn

A cargo ship that sprung a leak in the Gulf of Finland last week has been towed into the port of Tallinn. The Finnish Boarder Guard said several meters of water had flooded into the engine room and one of the cargo compartments of a Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier Glory Hongkong sailing in international waters to the west of Suursaari island en route to St Petersburg. Pumping equipment was used to drain the cargo compartment, and the leak between the engine room and the cargo hold was stopped. No oil leaked from the ship into the sea at any stage.

Tallinn Port Annouces Discounts for LNG Ships

Starting in 2018, all ships that use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as their primary fuel can apply for a discount of four percent on tonnage fees when calling at harbours of the Port of Tallinn. The goal of the discount is to contribute to the adoption of environmentally friendlier technologies in the Baltic Sea shipping sector. “Similarly to other ports in the European Union and Norway, the Port of Tallinn has set a course toward environmentally differentiated port fees, with the aim of reducing the amount of air pollution and marine pollution from ships’ waste handling and gaseous emissions,” said the head of quality and environmental management department at the Port of Tallinn, Ellen Kaasik.

Four Baltic Sea Ports Pact for Onshore Power Supply

Four Baltic Sea ports, namely Estonia’s port of Tallinn, Swedish ports of Stockholm and Finland’s ports of Helsinki and Turku, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming for a common approach for a new onshore power supply for vessels. The aim of the cooperation is to actively contribute to reducing negative effects on the environment, according to the parties. "The passenger ferry quays in Helsinki, Stockholm, Tallinn and Turku are located close to the city centers," Ellen Kaasik, head of the Port of Tallinn's Department of Quality and Environmental Management stated in a press release. "The combination of noise, vibration and other ship emissions (CO2, NOx, PM) can have a negative effect on existing and future living and working areas.

Estonian Port Passenger Number Up in June, Cargo Volume Down

The ports of the Estonian state-owned port operator Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) handled in June 1.68 million tonnes of cargo and serviced 1,045,461 passengers. Compared to the same period last year, the cargo volume dropped by 25% while the number of passengers was by 1.3% higher than last year. In six months, the ports handled 4.4 million passengers which is 0.6 percent below last year’s level. The most popular route was Tallinn-Helsinki with 0.82 million passengers, followed by Tallinn-Stockholm line with 90,369 thousand people and Tallinn-St Petersburh line with 11,773 people. ABB to Power Tallink's LNG Ferry

ABB has won an order to deliver complete electric power plant, electrical propulsion systems and an energy management solution for Estonia-based Tallink Grupp´s new liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered fast ferry. The large-scale ferry will be built at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland for delivery in the beginning of 2017. The vessel will be about 212 meters in length with a gross tonnage of 49,000. The ferry, planned to carry 2,800 passengers, will operate between Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, and Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

Port of Tallinn Orders Four Ferries

The Port of Tallinn has signed contracts with Remontowa Shipbuilding and Sefine Shipyard shipbuilding facilities for the construction of four new car-passenger ferry boats to be used on the lines between the mainland and major Estonian islands; two ferries are to be built by each shipbuilding facility. The four new ferry boats, designed by the Norwegian company LMG Marin, will be constructed in the shipbuilding yards located in Gdánsk, Poland and Altinova, Turkey. 1H 2014 Profits of Port of Tallinn Up 16%

Port of Tallinn earned an unaudited half-year net profit of 20.2 million euros with company’s turnover reaching 59 million euros. Compared to last year the turnover increased by 7% and the net profit by 16%. “The first half of this year introduced the best ever figures for Port of Tallinn, both financially and concerning the record number of passengers,” said Ain Kaljurand, the Chairman of the Management Board of AS Tallinna Sadam. Port of Tallinn invests in Paldiski South Harbor

The council of Port of Tallinn approved an investment of 1.8 million euros for deepening the aquatory of Paldiski South Harbor in order to enable the harbour to accept bigger vessels with total tonnage up to 75,000 GT. With the help of the investment aimed to increase the competitiveness of Paldiski South Harbor the channel and turning circle of the aquatory will be deepened from current 13.5 meters to 14.5 meters. “Paldiski South Harbor today is a regional cargo harbour oriented towards handling both, the Estonian export and import cargo and specific transit goods,“ said Remo Holsmer, the Chairman of the Council of Port of Tallinn. Estonian Port Buys Icebreaker

Port of Tallinn signs the purchasing agreement for icebreaker 'MSV Botnica'. The 50 million euro agreement is with the Finnish shipping company Arctia for the outright purchase of the icebreaking vessel. MSV Botnica is a multipurpose icebreaker built in 1998 by Aker Finnyards in Rauma, Finland. Her ice class is ICE-10, length (LOA) is 97.3 and beam 24.3 metres. The maximum speed of MSV Botnica is 16.5 knots in open water; she can maintain a speed of 8 knots in ice up to 80cm thickness. The maximum ice thickness in which the ship is capable of maintaining constant speed is 1.2 meters.

Project Profile, Muuga Port

In very challenging weather conditions Danish contractor Per Aarsleff is installing its largest profile and one of its longest combination steel pile retaining walls for the extension to the container terminal in the Port of Muuga on the Gulf of Finland south coast, 17km east of the Estonian capital Tallinn. The site team, with its fleet of specialist marine plant, has been coping with freezing temperatures, strong winds and rough seas at the exposed site to accurately drive over 420 tubular steel piles up to 1.67m diameter and 45m long into the seabed.
