Myanmar Study Looks at Port Data Exchange
A feasibility study looking into the possible expansion of the Northeast Asia Logistics Information Service Network (NEAL-NET) has been undertaken in Myanmar, as part of a project co-funded by International Maritime Organization (IMO) and China. A team of consultants in Myanmar (5-6 March) met a range of stakeholders in the region and made a site visit to the port of Yangon. The aim is to gain a better understanding of existing systems of port logistics information and to identify the port or ports where NEAL-NET could be implemented. Evergreen Upgrades its Intra-Asia Service Network
Evergreen Line announced it will partner with Mariana Express in launching a joint South China- East Malaysia (SEM) Service. The new initiative will give a boost to the service offered to shippers on this important sector of the Intra-Asian trade, the liner company said. The SEM service will employ two ships with around 1,000 TEU capacity each. Sailings will be weekly and follow the port rotation: Shekou - Hong Kong - Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia) - Muara (Brunei) - Bintulu (Malaysia) - Shekou. The first sailing is planned to depart from Shekou on September 10. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve network connections in this region, Evergreen Line will also take space on Interasia Lines' Singapore - Yangon (Burma) - Malaysia (SYM) service based on a slot swap arrangement.
MOL Ships Medical Supplies to Myanmar for Free
Mitsui O.S.K.Lines,Ltd. (MOL) announced that it supported PH-Japan’s (Peoples’ HOPE Japan’s - PHJ) Myanmar healthcare program to provide free transportation of PH-Japan’s container filled with 2,000 units of digital thermometers and electronic blood pressure manometers to hospitals and medical facilities in Myanmar. This is the first instance of MOL support in the form of free transport of goods to Myanmar. The medical instruments were shipped from Yokohama port on June 21 and arrived at the Port of Yangon, Myanmar, on July 17. On August 11, a ceremony marking the arrival of medical equipment was held. Despite fast-growing economy in Myanmar, it remains one of the least affluent countries in East Asia.
