Abu Dhabi Ports Welcomes New Cruise Season

As Abu Dhabi's new Zayed Port cruise terminal opens by the end of this year, the number of cruise ships docking in Abu Dhabi is set to increase by a fifth this season, reports the National. Zayed Port,  a premier cruise hub in the region, is expected to welcome 112 cruise ship calls in the new season spanning from mid-September this year to mid- May 2016. The figure is 19 per cent higher than the 94 cruise ship calls in the 2014-2015 season. The ships will bring a total of 205,000 passengers to the capital between September and May, up from 185,000 who flocked through the gates of Port Zayed last season. Khalifa Port Handles a Million TEU’s in First Year

Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) and Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) say that a million TEU containers have been handled at Khalifa Port since its commercial opening. Khalifa Port began commercial operations at the end of last year when all container traffic was transferred from the city centre port Zayed Port, to the country’s new  flagship Khalifa Port. In October 2013, more than 100,000 TEUs passed through the port in just one month, and according to the operators these are very significant figures for Khalifa Port and the highest number of containers ever handled in a single month in the Emirate.

Keppel Hitachi Zosen Tapped To Build Harbor Tugs

Keppel Hitachi Zosen, through Keppel Singmarine Dockyard, will build two harbor tugs for S$17 million for the Abu Dhabi Sea Port Authority, Port Zayed in the United Arab Emirates. Both tugs are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2001. The steel-hulled, twin-screwed, diesel motor-driven harbor tugs will be built to a length overall of 33 meters, a breadth of 10 meters, a depth of 5 meters, and a draft of 4 meters. The tugs will have a bollard pull of 50 tons, and a maximum speed of 13.8 knots. Lum Chee Kong, General Manager of Keppel Singmarine Dockyard said, "Keppel Singmarine's strength lies in the construction of a wide range of tugs and smaller specialized vessels.
