Mobile Battery MgBOX in Sea Trials

Japanese marine renewable energy technology compan Eco Marine Power (EMP) is conducting an evaluation trial using the MgBOX fuel cell or air battery in co-operation with Furukawa Battery Co., Ltd. (Furukawa Battery) and several ship owners.These trials will help determine how this innovative emergency battery can be best stored and used on ships. Once this work is completed it is planned to make the MgBOX available for use worldwide on a variety of vessels, offshore platforms & other marine applications.The MgBOX is a small and portable emergency magnesium (Mg) air battery developed by Furukawa Battery. The MgBOX can be stored for long periods and is activated by simply adding fresh or salt water.

Multi-purpose 9.5m Cabin RIB from ASIS Boats

A maritime Solutions Company in Dubai has just taken delivery of ASIS 9.5m Cabin RIBs for Security Patrol and Pilot Services. The multi-purpose custom built crafts will be used for Dubai International Port Operations on a daily basis. The 9.5m Rigid Inflatable Boats have a heavy duty fiberglass hull and an extra reinforced aluminium cabin superstructure. Deigned and certified under Category “B”, these RIBs have great stability and seaworthiness. They can withstand waves of up to 4m height and wind of Beaufort force 8. They are powered by Yanmar diesel Inboard engine of 315 Hp.

New FORAN Update from SENER

SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas SA informs it has launched a new version of its marine CAD/CAM system, the FORAN V80, which incorporates new capabilities to cope with demands from the marine shipbuilding, civil, offshore and naval sectors. The new version is fully compatible with the previous ones and includes improvements in all of its modules, SENER said in launching the update. The main upgrades come from the initial and basic project stages, where the calculations and results can be reused in further steps. Regarding the hull structure and outfitting modules, they add extra functionality such as the new advanced welding managing, or enhancements in the P&ID – 3D piping link, now with a more flexible and complete data locking system.

ABS Nautical Systems will release in 2013 a new mobility platform for its NS5 Enterprise.

ABS Nautical Systems continually enhances its NS5 Enterprise software suite of products to meet ever-changing industry demands. Currently in development for release in 2013 are a mobility platform, a new warehouse and inventory management module, as well as a new Hull Inspection 3D module. The mobility platform supports portable devices including scanners, tablet PCs and smartphones. Features will include alert view notifications and mobile calendaring.
