USS Constitution – 200+ Yrs of Service

The crew of USS Constitution - the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world - celebrated the ship's 211th birthday and recognized the performance of her Sailors Oct. 21. More than 100 people attended the celebration, including her crew, staff members of the USS Constitution Museum and invited guests for the annual "Grog Ceremony" on her decks. Ronald Reagan CPOs Celebrate 115 Years of Deckplate Leadership

Chief Petty Officers (CPO) from USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 14 took time out from conducting Composite Training Unit Exercises to gather in the ship's CPO mess April 1, to honor the 115th birthday of the chief petty officer rank. The event included speeches, recognition of CPOs killed in combat, the honoring of famous chiefs throughout history who helped build the CPO mess, special food and entertainment. "Today is our 115th birthday," said Ronald Reagan's Command Master Chief (SW/AW) Jim DeLozier. "We are joining chiefs around the world in celebrating 115 years of the fouled anchor and the deckplate leadership it represents.

Navy Modernizes Amphibious Ships and Hovercraft

Invisible to approximately 5,000 people witnessing the USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) commissioning ceremony, Dec. 15, a newly modernized landing craft air cushion (LCAC) 39 sat certified and ready for transport within the well deck of the Navy's newest amphibious ship. Mesa Verde had already finished its requisite LCAC certification Dec. 7, which qualify the ship to recover an LCAC and embark on the ship's mission of transporting Marines, their supplies, and equipment, according to Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Panama City Division Project Engineer Rhett Plash. Plash works with NSWC PCD LCAC in-service engineering activity and operations. "We're actually a part of the team that performs well deck certifications," Plash said.
