AD Ports Group's feeder service, SAFEEN Feeders, has signed a long-term trade facilitation and shipping agreement with Saif Powertec Limited, a listed firm in Bangladesh that is active in ports, logistics, civil engineering, and power sectors.Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will collaborate to facilitate trade and cargo services from Fujairah to Bangladesh over a period of 15 years. John Deere Power Systems is shipping the new PowerTech 4045SFM85 marine engine to boat owners and builders. The manufacturer touts the PowerTech 4045SFM85's power-to-weight, torque and compact size, saying it is suited for planing and semi-displacement hulls.The PowerTech 4045SFM85 engine has two ratings:--  M4 rating with 205 kW (275 hp) at 2600 rpm and--  M5 rating with 235 kW (315 hp) at 2800 rpm. These ratings are ideal for light-duty commercial vessels, high-speed governmental applications and high-speed pleasure crafts.

John Deere Power Systems has expanded its lineup with three new marine engines available for order from early 2018. The new 4.5L PowerTech 4045SFM85 offers high power to weight ratio for repowering and new vessel construction, and is ideal for planing and semi-displacement hulls, the manufacturer said. New Tug Delivered to Vane Brothers

Marine transportation provider Vane Brothers has taken delivery of the newly built tugboat Delaware, the fourth of eight vessels in Vane’s Elizabeth Anne Class of 4,200-horsepower tugs contracted through St. Johns Ship Building in Palatka, Fla. Designed by Frank Basile, P.E., of Entech Designs, LLC, the Delaware is a steel-hulled, model bow tug measuring 100 feet long with a 34-foot beam and 13-foot draught. She utilizes two Caterpillar 3516 Tier 3 (“A” Rated) engines, each generating 2,100 horsepower at 1,600 rpm.

Vane Bros. Continues Fleet Expansion

Vane Brothers, a marine transportation provider headquartered in Baltimore, has added two vessels to its fleet: the 4,200-horsepower tugboat Hudson and 55,000‐barrel barge Double Skin 601. The Hudson is the second of eight vessels in Vane’s Elizabeth Anne Class of 4,200‐horsepower tugboats contracted through St. Johns Ship Building in Palatka, Fla. John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) will exhibit an auxiliary power unit equipped with a PowerTech Plus 9.0L industrial diesel engine that meets U.S. EPA Marine Tier 3 emissions regulations at the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans. The PowerTech 6090HF485 is a radiator-cooled, dry-exhaust-manifold auxiliary engine that is ideal for powering a variety of deck auxiliaries including pumps, winches, cranes, hydraulics and generators. Wärtsilä to Shed 1,000 Staff in Global Efficiency Shake Up

The Group-wide efficiency programme is expected to lead to a reduction of approximately 1,000 employees globally, of which about 200 are planned to be in Finland, in a move to secure future profitability and competitiveness. Wärtsilä add that the reductions will impact all businesses and support functions. The company explains that despite some signs of improvement in market conditions, the business environment remains challenging. Vessel contracting activity is expected to remain at improved levels, but overcapacity and price pressure is still a concern.

Roger Holm to Lead New Wärtsilä Four-stroke Organization

Roger Holm, M.Sc. (Econ.), has been appointed Senior Vice President, four-stroke, and member of the Ship Power management team as of 1 September 2013. In this position, he is responsible for Wärtsilä's four-stroke activities globally. Mr. Holm joined Wärtsilä in 1997 and has held several managerial positions, most recently leading the Seals and Bearings organization within Wärtsilä Services. Before that he has had the positions of Vice President, Solutions Management and Vice President, Business Development, also within Services, and has worked as CIO for Wärtsilä Corporation.

Wärtsilä 34DF Recieves U.S. EPA Certificate

Wärtsila obtained certification of emission standard compliance from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines. It will enable Wärtsilä to strongly enter the American market with marine engine technology that offers operators and owners the option of using either diesel or gas as fuel. John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) announced new Marine Tier 3 PowerTechTM 4.5L and 6.8L propulsion and generator-drive engines. John Deere will meet U.S. EPA Marine Tier 3 emissions regulations that began to take effect in 2009 based on cylinder displacement and power per displacement with a complete lineup of PowerTech 4.5L and 6.8L propulsion and generator-drive engines. They also will achieve compliance with IMO Tier II emissions regulations and EU 97/68/EC. New EPA Marine Tier 3 regulations will impact John Deere 4.5L and 6.8L engines beginning January 1, 2013.

Philip Maguire Appointed V-P Wärtsilä Quality

Wärtsilä’s group-wide quality programme and the quality organisation will become Mr. Maguire's responsibility from 1, Feb 2013. Mr Philip Maguire, BSc (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, will be a member of the Wärtsilä PowerTech management team and report to Lars Hellberg, President, Wärtsilä PowerTech. He succeeds Mr Osmo Härkönen who will retire at the end of January 2013. Mr Maguire joins Wärtsilä from Tetra Pak where, as Vice President, Quality, he developed and executed a quality acceleration programme.
