Ørsted Picks Seaway 7 for Offshore Wind Installation Works in Germany

Offshore wind installation contractor Seaway 7 has been selected as a preferred contractor by Ørsted for the transport and installation of wind turbine generators for part of the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farms in Germany. Under the contract, the first since the last week's merger between OHT and Seaway 7, the company will use its jack-up installation vessel VIND1, currently under construction in China.The two offshore wind projects are expected to be fully commissioned in 2024 and 2025.

Van Oord, SGRE Win Windpark Fryslân Job

The consortium of Van Oord and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has signed a conditional contract to build the Windpark Fryslân nearshore wind farm in the Netherlands.The large-scale nearshore wind farm is to be built in the Frisian part of the IJsselmeer in the Netherlands to Zuiderzeewind.Signed in Amsterdam, the conditional contract comprises the construction of the 380-plus MW nearshore wind farm as well as service operations for at least 16 years following completion.Van Oord – Siemens Gamesa were named preferred contractor for the project on 3 August 2018. The final investment decision is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2019.The Windpark Fryslân project is to be built in the IJsselmeer to the south of the Afsluitdijk near Breezanddijk.

Boskalis Awarded Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Contract

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has been awarded the Offshore Balance of Plant contract by Vattenfall for the construction of Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm, also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. Following the announcement on 29 June stating that Boskalis was the preferred contractor, the contract has now been formally awarded. The project will consist of eleven wind turbines with a capacity of 92.4 MW. The contract includes all offshore elements of the wind farm, with the exception of the wind turbine supply. The contract carries a value for Boskalis of well in excess of EUR 100 million. Aberdeen Offshore Windfarm is located approximately 3 kilometers off the coast of Aberdeen, United Kingdom.

HLG Bags Abu Dhabi Port's KIZAD Contract

The Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has been awarded a contract with revenue of AED263 million (AUD96 million) for the construction in Abu Dhabi of Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad) Area A Secondary Infrastructure (Phase 1B) for Abu Dhabi Ports. The methodology will include extensive dewatering, excavation, pipe-laying and road construction works. HLG has been involved in the construction of different phases of Khalifa Port and Kizad in Abu Dhabi and is very proud to again be selected by Abu Dhabi Ports to deliver this project. HLG CEO and Managing Director, Mr. José A. López-Monís, said: “This new award is a great achievement that proves the Group remains a preferred contractor for clients to whom HLG has demonstrated its ability to deliver complex and high quality projects.

Habtoor Leighton Awarded Doha Pipeline Project

for KAHRAMAA – Qatar’s General Electricity and Water Corporation. HLG, operating as Leighton Contracting (Qatar) WLL, is responsible for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 120km of 1600mm diameter ductile iron pipes and fittings. Works also include trench excavation, backfilling and construction of all valve chambers. This contract brings the total value of new project awards to HLG during 2014 to AED7.4 billion (US$2 billion) – close to doubling HLG’s December 2013 work in hand to AED16.5 billion (US$4.48 billion). The pipelines project is the fifth project awarded to HLG by KAHRAMAA. KAHRAMAA was for the construction of the Duhail and Umm Qarn Reservoirs in 2009.

BMT Engaged in Australian Foreshore Project Design

BMT JFA Consultants (BMT)  supports the Shire of Esperance, Western Australia in its plans to construct a granite seawall & headland. BMT was originally commissioned to help develop the required technical specifications for the production of sufficient quarry rock to construct a granite seawall and headland as part of the Esperance Foreshore Protection & Enhancement Project. BMT’s support rapidly expanded to encompass the construction specifications and to review and finalise the detailed design of the structures. Part of this work has entailed the production of a detailed design report, which provides a basis for ongoing engineering support during the construction and post-construction management phases.

L-3 Communications Selected by New Zealand Ministry

L-3 Communications announced that its Integrated Systems division (L-3 IS) has been selected as the preferred contractor by the New Zealand Ministry of Defence to upgrade mission and communication-navigation systems for New Zealand's fleet of P-3 Orion (P-3) patrol aircraft. The upgrade to the six aircraft operated by the Royal New Zealand Air Force will include the replacement of the data management system, radar, electronic sensors, communications and navigation systems. The upgraded P-3 fleet will be equipped to meet both civilian agency and military requirements, as well as provide interoperability with New Zealand's security partners. Contract value will be determined through negotiations which are under way now and expected to conclude in October.
