TUI CEO Steps Aside from Charitiable Foundation Chair

Thomas Ellerbeck, member of the Management Board of the Germany-based travel and cruise ship firm TUI AG, has been appointed by the Group’s Executive Board to take over this mandate from Friedrich Joussen, who is CEO of TUI AG. (With Hapag-Lloyd Kreuzfahrten and TUI Cruises, TUI AG’s portfolio has two brands in its portfolia offering maritime holidays. It is also in a joint venture with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. which offers cruises for the German-speaking market aboard the cruise ship Mein Schiff 1). TUI explain that Ellerbeck is the company’s Management Board member in charge of Corporate & External Affairs, including Politics, International Relations, Group Communications, CR and Sustainable Development, the TUI Foundation and the Trademarks, Patents and Licenses Department.

Another Takeover for Carnival Corp.?

The world's largest travel group Preussag AG on Monday declined to comment on reports that Carnival Corp was considering a bid for its Hapag-Lloyd cruise division. Carnival was reportedly considering the move to gain a foothold in the European market. A spokeswoman for Germany's Preussag declined to comment on the report. "We don't comment on market rumors," she said. Carnival Corp. officials were not immediately available for comment.

Analysts Speculate Possible Carnival / Hapag-Lloyd Deal

Carnival Corp said on Tuesday its growing cash holdings were spurring market speculation that the world's largest cruise group was on the acquisitions trail. A spokesman for the Miami-based operator of 45 cruise ships, declined to speak directly to reports that Carnival may be working on a bid for Hapag-Lloyd cruises. "It is our policy not to comment on market rumors," he said. Hapag-Lloyd, a unit of the world's largest travel group Preussag AG, operates five ships in German-speaking countries. A spokesman for Hapag-Lloyd said on Monday he knew of no bid for the company. With pricing pressure in its core North American markets, Carnival has been looking to Europe for growth.

Preussag AG is reported to be discussing a shipbuilding alliance -- which would include HDW -- with Sweden's group Celsius.
