Demand for New Car Carriers Surges on China's EV Export Boom
Chinese automakers and shippers are ordering a record number of car-carrying vessels to support a boom in EV exports, data showed, putting China on course to amass the world's fourth-largest fleet by 2028.China currently has the world's eighth-largest fleet with 33 car-carrying ships, showed data from shipping consultancy Veson Nautical. Japan has the world's largest with 283 ships, followed by Norway's 102, South Korea's 72 and Isle of Man's 61.But Chinese companies have 47 ships on order, accounting for a quarter of all orders globally.

Ethane Carrier GasChem Beluga Named
A new liquefied ethylene gas carrier (LEG) was named on Teesside today. Operated by German shipping company Hartmann Reederei and GasChem Services, the new eco-friendly sea vessel GasChem Beluga will carry shipments of ethane gas from Houston to SABIC’s cracker at Wilton on Teesside under a long-term time charter. SABIC recently converted its Teesside cracker during a major investment to enable it to take ethane gas alongside other feedstocks, to make it one of the most flexible and competitive crackers in Europe.

Classification society Korean Register (KR) announced the release of its latest KR-CON software. The essential software tool, now in its 14th edition includes an enhanced and increasingly critical dangerous goods program, which has been developed in-house, as one of its key functions. KR-CON offers a comprehensive electronic database of International Maritime Organization (IMO) instruments, providing all of the latest IMO Conventions, Codes, Resolutions and Circulars. By simply inputting a ship’s particulars, KR-CON allows the user to find all of the regulations relevant to a specific task and helps to ensure that all of the IMO requirements are applied correctly.

Shanghai MHI Engine Co., Ltd., a manufacturer and marketer of diesel engines jointly established by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Shanghai Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. (SDEC) – a Chinese diesel engine manufacturer – has launched operation. The JV aims to establish a solid position in the Chinese market for industrial-use diesel engines by building up market share through more competitively priced products. Port 'Failure to Act' Study Released by ASCE
American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) quantifies infrastructure needs in airports, marine ports & inland waterway sectors. Aging infrastructure for marine ports, inland waterways, and airports threatens more than 1 million U.S. jobs according to a new Failure to Act report from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Between now and 2020, investment needs in the nation’s marine ports and inland waterways sector total $30 billion, while planned expenditures are about $14 billion, leaving a total investment gap of nearly $16 billion.
Diesel Engines for China Market – Majors Set Up New Company
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Shanghai Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. (SDEC), a major Chinese diesel engine manufacturer, have signed an agreement to establish Shanghai MHI Engine Co., Ltd., to manufacture and market diesel engines in China. The aim of the new joint venture is to make a full-fledged entrance into the rapidly expanding Chinese market for industrial-use diesel engines and to build up market share through more competitively priced products. The JV is scheduled to begin manufacturing and marketing in December of this year.
