Japan-based classification society ClassNK announced the release of its PrimeShip-PSC Intelligence mobile app designed to assist the improvement of ship management system and port state control (PSC) performance. The application is the mobile version of PSC Intelligence PC version for ship management companies released in 2018.The free application, which has been developed for seafarers, enables them not only to manually input the reports by PSC into data on their smartphones, but also to convert the PSC reports shot with a camera into data using AI-OCR.

Classification society ClassNK released a new longitudinal strength assessments software “PrimeShip-HULL(Rules)/PartC15” as part of its prescriptive calculation suite “PrimeShip-HULL(Rules)”. For ensuring further safety and streamlining structural design of ships, ClassNK issued amendments for Chapter 15, Part C of its Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships relevant to the longitudinal strength in June 2017. The amendments included clearer standard for transverse members at the buckling strength assessments.

IMO Maritime Safety Committee has confirmed completion of the corrective actions requested by IMO to the International Association of Classification Societies’ (IACS) Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers (CSR BC&OT) under the agenda item 6, Goal-Based New Ship Construction Standards (GBS) at its 98th session held on June 7, 2017. Previously, MSC96 confirmed CSR BC&OT complied with GBS in 2016, and the ships constructed in compliance with the rules at that time should be deemed as compliant with GBS.

(PRESS RELEASE) ClassNK released its new structural design support system PrimeShip-HULL for Container Carriers to correspond with its latest rule amendments. To promote container carrier safety, ClassNK released amendments to its Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships on December 25, 2015. The amendments, based on findings from ClassNK’s investigation into a large container carrier casualty, include updates to independent longitudinal strength requirements and reflect the new IACS Unified Requirements (UR) S11A and S34. These amendments will apply to container carriers contracted for construction on or after 1 April 2016, three months before the application of the IACS UR S11A and S34.

ClassNK released PrimeShip-GREEN/ProSTA, making it the world’s first classification society to develop software which analyzes and calculates a ship’s speed trial results for EEDI calculation in compliance with the latest IMO Guidelines on 1 May 2015. MARPOL AnnexVI states one parameter to calculate EEDI as the ship’s speed in calm sea conditions based on the speed trial results. To eliminate the effects of external factors during sea trial (wind, waves, current, water depth, sea temperature) and provide a way to analyze and calculate a ship’s speed in calm sea conditions, IMO assigned two methods in its Guidelines on survey and certification of the Energy Efficiency Design Index. Those were ISO 15016:2002 and the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) Recommended Procedures.

Global maritime software, services and data analysis company NAPA announced the release of new tools and interfaces with class society software to streamline ship design compliance with Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers (CSR BC&OT; formerly known as “harmonized CSR”) from the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). Updates to 3D structural design software, NAPA Steel, and the release of state-of-the-art geometry modeling tool, NAPA Designer, will deliver a shift from 2D to 3D design requirements.

ClassNK has released PrimeShip-HULL (HCSR) Ver. 2.5.0 in response to the new IACS Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers (CSR BC & OT). CSR BC & OT, which harmonizes requirements found in both existing Common Structural Rules for bulk carriers and double hull oil tankers, was adopted by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Council in December 2013, partially amended in 2014, and applies to bulk carriers over 90m in length and double hull oil tankers over 150m in length contracted for construction on or after 1 July 2015. Based on requests from ship designers, ClassNK developed PrimeShip-HULL (HCSR) with a built-in strong design support function that is completely different to any other software to date.

ClassNK and leading global maritime software company NAPA have announced a new joint project to reduce the time and cost of designing vessels in accordance with the new IACS harmonised Common Structural Rules. The new project will enhance the data linkage between ClassNK’s PrimeShip-HULL(HCSR) design support software with NAPA’s 3D model based integrated design software NAPA Steel greatly improving the efficiency of the ship design process and reducing the cost of designing vessels in accordance with the new rules.
