The riser platform construction start was marked today at the Samsung Heavy Industries yard in South Korea. Crowley Maritime Corporation’s solutions group announced today that it has received the first two of potentially four, new heavy-lift, ballastable deck barges (HDBs) for use by clients in the Asia-Pacific region. These new barges, which will be contracted and managed from the company’s recently opened Singapore office, allow Crowley to better support regional customers in the oil and gas mining; Engineering, Construction and Procurement Management (ECPM); and Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) industries who are increasingly embarking on large-scale onshore and offshore projects. These new 400-foot-long, 120-foot-wide (122 meter x 36.5 meter) HDBs, named HDB 01 and HDB 02 are moored in Batam, Indonesia.

Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. say they have hired John Propeck as General Manager for their Gulf Coast regional office, located in Houston, TX. The company adds that Propeck brings with him over forty-five years of multi-faceted experience in the commercial diving and maritime industry. He began his career as a commercial diver, logging over 1,000 days in saturation. He has over twenty years of program and project management experience, including business development, marketing, sales, purchasing and procurement management.

In the past weeks, Damen Marine Components (DMC) and Damen Anchor & Chain Factory (AKF), both part of Damen Shipyards Group, reported successes in their respective lines of business. DMC has completed several projects for the offshore, ports, defense and fishing markets, and is expanding its business and facilities in Poland. It also acquired a new ISO certificate. AKF expands its ready available stock anchors. AKF reported the arrival of the first shipment of additional stock size HYT-12 and HYD-14 anchors in June.

Web-based Procurement Management Systems Standardize Purchasing Procedures, Increase Transaction Oversight and Streamline Accounting Processes for the U.S. The Defense Energy Support Center (DESC), a field activity of the Defense Logistics Agency and an agency within the U.S. Government Department of Defense, is responsible for the procurement of all energy-related resources in support of the warfighters of the U.S. DESC program management began implementing card programs for the purchase of ground and aviation fuel in the mid-1990s. The success of these programs led to the formal creation of the Government Fuel Card Program Office in 2006. The department’s focus was to implement, manage, and improve fuel procurement services offered by the DESC.

The U.S. Coast Guard named its new Assistant Commandant for Acquisition and its Chief Acquisition Officer June 15 and promoted that flag officer to rear admiral upper half.
