Drewry Rolls-out ‘Cost Impact Calculator’ for Shippers

Responding to the concerns and needs of Beneficial Cargo Owners (BCOs) ahead of the IMO 2020 global emission regulation, global shipping consultancy Drewry announces the addition of a new BAF formula and fuel cost benchmarking service to complement its existing range of ocean freight procurement support services.In cooperation with both shipper members of the Drewry Benchmarking Club and other parties, Drewry has developed an IMO low-sulphur rule, “Cost Impact Calculator” based on robust market data, benchmarked BAF charges and fuel cost differentials between loops and carriers.“With the compliance window to the IMO’s low-sulphur rule change in January 2020 rapidly closing…

MBTA Welcomes New Addition to Boston Ferry Fleet

As part of a continued effort to invest in Boston-area water transportation, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently welcomed a new high-speed catamaran ferry, Champion to its fleet with support from STV, a leading engineering, architectural, planning, and construction management firm. Champion is the first new passenger ferry vessel procured by the MBTA. It was also the first new water-borne vessel procurement supported by STV, which has a long-standing history of providing procurement support services for rail and bus vehicles to the MBTA and other transportation agencies throughout North America. The new ferry will provide service between Hingham, Hull, Logan Airport and downtown Boston.

Noble Denton Spanish Contract

Noble Denton, a global offshore engineering and marine consulting firm, announced the award of a $21.3m contract from ACS Cobra Castor UTE in Spain. The scope of work includes the provision of project management and procurement support services for Castor’s underground gas-storage development initiative. John Wishart, Noble Denton’s group managing director, said, “This initiative will see the redevelopment of the abandoned Amposta reservoir to provide back-up gas supplies for the Mediterranean coast of Spain in periods of high gas demand. The project, which will ensure a reliable gas supply to industrial and domestic consumers in Spain, will run over a four-year period and involve up to 25 Noble Denton personnel.
