Engineering and industrial software providers Cadmatic and CONTACT Software have partnered to bring the first shipbuilding-specific product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions to shipyards.Cadmatic, a ship design and information management solution provider for the marine industry, said it will utilize the CONTACT Elements platform and its apps to deliver a broader scope of shipbuilding-specific digitalization solutions.Cadmatic’s scope will cover the entire lifecycle of shipbuilding projects from design and engineering to prefabrication and production and even to maintenance and operation.

A partnership between PROSTEP, the product lifecycle management (PLM) consulting and solutions company and NAPA has successfully completed a ship design solution development project for Meyer Turku.NAPA and PROSTEP combined their respective experience to develop an interface for NAPA Designer, a 3D modelling and design software that meshes with Meyer Turku’s CAD.As a result of this project, NAPA and PROSTEP signed a formal cooperation agreement to work more closely together in the development of PLM software and CAE interfaces, as well as in the field of PLM consulting.

The Centre of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding (CEMS) in India, a well-funded start-up in skill development for maritime and shipbuilding sector, has announced setting up of 24 labs -6 in Mumbai and 18 in Vizag campus. It also shared the list of courses being offered. The labs being set up include Product Design & Validation, Advance Manufacturing, Hull Design, Automation, Welding Technology, Robotics, Virtual Reality, Advance Machine & Robotics, Electrical and several others. The announcement was made in the first seminar on Competencies, Employability, Methodology and Skills organized by CEMS in Mumbai. The engineering and technology group SENER has once again participated in “SMC 2016”, the annual maritime convention organized by the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) that brings together the main players in the US marine industry. SENER has launched an update of its FORAN shipbuilding CAD/CAM/CAE system. Version V80R1.0, which was launched onto the market when FORAN celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015, was a revolutionary change. A year later, version V80R2.0 has added significant features such as a new geometric core and the ability to manage a series of ships (Applicability), in addition to other improvements in all of its disciplines. Developing the concept of managing a series of ships has been demanded by the market for some time, especially in the military field.

Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, world leader in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced that the 3DEXPERIENCE platform now extends the support of XMpLant with an integrated high-performance software tool providing interfaces to the major process plant and ship design systems used by the energy, process and utilities and the marine and offshore industries. Classification society Bureau Veritas has entered into a strategic partnership with Dassault Systèmes, the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, company in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, in which Bureau Veritas will use Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform to enable the continuous assessment throughout the lifetime of ships and offshore platforms, as well as the equipment found on them. Bureau Veritas’ integrated Asset Integrity Management System will help owners and operators in their decision-making and improve maintenance and repair, seeking to reduce cost and downtime. This will rely on a joint development program that will ensure interoperability with third party software and related data standards.

Siemens and CD-adapco have entered into a stock purchase agreement for the acquisition of CD-adapco by Siemens. The purchase price is $970 million. CD-adapco is a global engineering simulation company with software solutions covering a wide range of engineering disciplines including Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Solid Mechanics (CSM), heat transfer, particle dynamics, reactant flow, electrochemistry, acoustics and rheology. Last fiscal year, CD-adapco had over 900 employees and revenue of close to $200 million with software-typical double digit margins.

The 14th International Conference on Computer and IT Applications in the Maritime Industries (COMPIT) will take place from 11th to 13th May 2015 in Ulrichshusen, Germany. First held in the year 2000, COMPIT has established itself as a key conference in information technology (IT) for the maritime industries, bringing together software developers and users. Most participants come from industry, reflecting the practical relevance of the event. DNV GL will be the main sponsor of the event which covers the lifecycle of ships, offshore structures and equipment, from design to operation. E-navigation (or sea traffic management) could be considered as the maritime equivalent of air traffic control systems.

SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas SA informs it has launched a new version of its marine CAD/CAM system, the FORAN V80, which incorporates new capabilities to cope with demands from the marine shipbuilding, civil, offshore and naval sectors. The new version is fully compatible with the previous ones and includes improvements in all of its modules, SENER said in launching the update. The main upgrades come from the initial and basic project stages, where the calculations and results can be reused in further steps. Regarding the hull structure and outfitting modules, they add extra functionality such as the new advanced welding managing, or enhancements in the P&ID – 3D piping link, now with a more flexible and complete data locking system.
