SFL Acquires LR2 Product Tanker Trio

BIMCO: Tanker Supply/Demand Balance will Tighten

The BIMCO Tanker Shipping Market Overview & Outlook February 2024 by Niels Rasmussen, BIMCO’s Chief Shipping Analyst, forecasts that the supply/demand balance will tighten further during both 2024 and 2025.Low fleet growth, along with increasing sailing distances, create the foundation for the improvement despite a slowing of growth in oil demand. The product tanker supply/demand balance is also expected to tighten in 2024 but weaken in 2025. Like the crude tanker market, longer sailing distances support demand growth despite slowing oil demand.

First of 10 Newbuilds Delivered for FureBear JV

The first vessel in a series of 10 newbuilds has been delivered to FureBear, a 50/50 joint venture between Sweden's Furetank and Canada's Algoma Central Corporation.Fure Vanguard is a dual-fuel ice class 1A 17,999 DWT product tanker built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou, China.The FureBear JV was formed in 2022 with an initial order for four ships. Later that year, the partners placed an order for four additional vessels, and in 2023 they ordered two more ships.

The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited announced it has contracted to buy a medium range (MR) product tanker of about 49,999 dwt on February 14, 2024. Product Tanker Scrapping Drops 82%

“In 2023, only seven product tankers with combined deadweight tonnes (DWT) capacity of 265,000 were recycled. US Buyer Scoops Pyxis Product Tanker for $40.75 Million

Greek shipping company Pyxis Tankers announced it has agreed to sell the vessel Pyxis Epsilon, a 2015 built 50,295 dwt. product tanker, for a sale price of $40.75 million in cash to an unaffiliated buyer located in the United States.Completion of the vessel sale remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to occur during the fourth quarter of 2023. Product Tanker Newbuild Contracting hits 10-year high

“During the first eight months of 2023, contracting of product tanker newbuilds hit a 10-year high, reaching 140 ships and 10.72 million deadweight tons (DWT). Scorpio Sells 2013-built Tanker for $32.5 Million

Scorpio Tankers announced it has sold a medium range (MR) product tanker for $32.5 million.The Monaco-headquartered shipowner said the sale closed this month, but did not disclose the buyer.The vessel is the 183-meter-long STI Ville, built in 2013 by South Korea's Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.Scorpio noted that the ship is unencumbered and that it will make no debt repayments associated with the sale.Scorpio Tankers currently owns, lease finances leases or bareboat charters-in 112 product tankers, including 39 LR2 tankers, 59 MR tankers and 14 Handymax tankers.

Scorpio Tankers has received commitments from a group of financial institutions for a previously announced $1.0 billion term loan and revolving credit facility.The over-subscribed Credit Facility was capped at an amount of $1.0 billion, and is expected to be used to finance 45 product tankers. Military Sealift Command Awards Time Charter to Overseas Mykonos

Florida-based Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc. (OSG) has announced that the Military Sealift Command has awarded the Overseas Mykonos a time charter contract to provide ongoing fuel transportation services.The Overseas Mykonos will be delivered to the Military Sealift Command at Pearl Harbor in August. The time charter awarded is for a one-year base period with the option to extend the contract out to a maximum period of five and a half years.The vessel, built in 2010, is a medium range product tanker with 12 cargo tanks and a cargo capacity of 333,000 barrels. The ship has the ability to perform consolidated cargo replenishment at sea operations, providing flexibility and options for refueling the U.S. military fleet while underway.

Algoma Orders Two Tankers from Hyundai Mipo

Algoma Central Corporation announced it has placed an order with Hyundai Mipo Shipyard in South Korea to build two 37,000 DWT ice class product tanker vessels for a total investment of CA$127 million (about US$96.2 million).These new ships will be entered on long-term time charters to Irving Oil under Canadian flag, servicing the energy company’s refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick, with deliveries to ports in Atlantic Canada and the U.S. East Coast.Delivery of the new vessels is expected during the first quarter of 2025.
