Horne Named VP of Trades at Newport News Shipbuilding

HII announced David Horne has been promoted to vice president of trades at its Newport News Shipbuilding division.Horne’s promotion comes following the restructuring of trades and human resources and administration from one large organization into two standalone organizations. Xavier Beale will continue as vice president of human resources and administration. Both Horne and Beale will report directly to NNS President Jennifer Boykin.“Each part of this organization is critical to our success,” Boykin said.

Uganda to Auction Oil Blocks

Uganda will auction new oil exploration acreage by December and compensate land owners at the site of a planned crude oil refinery, a government official said on Friday. Investor interest in Uganda's hydrocarbons potential has been growing since the east African country discovered commercial crude reserves in 2006, now estimated by government geologists at 6.5 billion barrels. Last month, the energy ministry issued a tender for a consultant to help prepare and package seismic and other data for the exploration fields that will be up for auction. "The consultant will also tell us how many blocks, which ones, what are their value," said Ernest Rubondo, commissioner for Petroleum Exploration and Production Department.

Agip has recently rebranded as Eni, while simultaneously announcing plans to increase penetration of its lubricant brands in North America across all industries. Gianfranco Mosconi (above) President and CEO of Eni USA R&M Co., shares the vision behind the strategy. Gianfranco Mosconi, with a Bachelor in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Hydraulic Engineering, has been working for Eni since 1984. He started in charge of the Logistics Department; transferring to the Lubricants Business Unit were he has been in charge for Production Department and then the Supply and Sales Departments.

NYK Group company, held a get-together on board its 58,000-ton bulk carrier New Pride with guests from the Ishinomaki area in Miyagi prefecture to celebrate the installation of a new mechanical unloader (cargo handling machinery) at the port’s No. 7 Hiyori wharf and to pray for the further recovery and development of the port. Two of the port’s three unloaders toppled into the sea during the Great East Japan Earthquake and ensuing tsunami, and the port’s handling capacity had since been reduced significantly.

Genset Manufacturer to be Taken Over by Tognum MTU

Specialist manufacturer of propulsion and power systems, Tognum, has received the approval of the competition authorities for the takeover of the Bavarian manufacturer of power generator sets Aggretech. This means that 75.1 per cent of the shares in Aggretech will be transferred to Tognum this week. It is planned that the new Tognum subsidiary will be renamed to MTU Onsite Energy Systems GmbH. The Board of Management of Aggretech and later Managing Directors of the new company will be Hubert Diener as Chairman and Stephan Hoffmann. Hubert Diener was previously the Head of the Special Production Department at Tognum’s subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen and Stefan Hoffmann was CFO of Aggretech.

CNOOC Changes to Senior Management

The board of directors of CNOOC Limited announced that Mr. Fu Chengyu, an Executive Director of the Company, will be re-designated as a Non-executive Director of the Company. Mr. Fu remains the Chairman of the Board. Mr. Li Fanrong, a Non-executive Director of the Company, will be re-designated as an Executive Director of the company. The re-designations of Mr. Fu and Mr. Li will become effective from 16 September 2010. Born in 1951, Mr. Fu received a B.S. degree in geology from the Northeast Petroleum Institute in China and a master degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Southern California in the United States. He has over 30 years of experience in the oil industry in the PRC. He previously worked in China’s Daqing, Liaohe and Huabei oil fields.

Deputy Chairman of the Board of MAN Hands Over Reins

Fritz Pape, Deputy Chairman of the Board of MAN Diesel SE, retired on October 31. Pape has been part of the company since 1966, having spent 13 years as a Member of the Board. His successor, Dr. Georg Pachta-Reyhofen has been in charge of the company since July 1 in his role as Chairman of the Board. He is also a Director of MAN AG, Munich. After his training to become an engine fitter, Fritz Pape studied production engineering at the State School for Mechanical Engineering in Düsseldorf. Following graduation as an engineer in 1966, he began his career as a production engineer at MAN. From 1973 onwards, Pape was responsible for the entire mechanical processing of diesel engines.
