MHI, Siemens Establish Production Machinery Joint Venture

Today Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) concluded an agreement with Siemens AG of Germany calling for the establishment of a joint-venture company (JV) in steel and metal production machinery effective as of January 2015 subject to regulatory approvals. According to MHI, the move has two aims: expansion of the product line in the steel and metal production machinery business and acceleration of globalization. Pemamek Oy Ltd. received another contract to supplement Keppel FELS’ Singapore yard upgrading. The new contract consists of two PEMA robotic profile processing lines. ClassNK Establishes New Standards for FLNG/FLPG Sector

April 28 (Tokyo) - Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) is pleased to announce the publication of its new Guidelines for Floating Offshore Facilities for LNG/LPG Production, Storage and Offloading. The new guidelines address the wide variety of construction and survey requirements for FLNG and FLPG facilities including LNG/LPG Floating Production, Storage and Offloading facilities (FPSO), Floating Production and Offloading facilities (FPO), and Floating Storage and Offloading facilities (FSO).

Nautilus Forms Strategic Partnership, Secures Vessel

Toronto, Ontario, April 13, 2011 - Nautilus Minerals’ plan to open a new frontier of seafloor resource production has taken a major step forward, with the formation of a strategic partnership with German shipping company Harren & Partner (“Harren”). A joint venture company (the “Vessel JV”) is to be formed to own and operate a production support vessel which will serve as the operational base for Nautilus to produce high grade copper and gold ore at its first development project, Solwara 1, in the Bismarck Sea of Papua New Guinea (“PNG”).

Topaz Launches Crew Boat, Kanoo 40

Topaz Energy and Marine Ltd. through its subsidiary Nico Craft has launched a 98.4 ft crew boat named Kanoo 40 for Kanoo Shipping. The crew boat was designed by Teknicraft, New Zealand and all the engineering and construction work was undertaken by Nico Craft in Fujairah. Nico Craft forms a part of Topaz Engineering, the newly formed engineering division of Topaz Energy and Marine. Kanoo 40 is a medium speed catamaran vessel designed to service vessels within a distance of 50 nautical miles from port.

Vosper Thornycroft Takes A “Bite” Out of Technology

Demonstrating a long-term commitment to its U.K. industrial base, Vosper Thornycroft is scheduled to start production next spring at a new, £40-million ($60-million) shipbuilding facility being created within the Portsmouth Naval Base. The technologically advanced, undercover yard will cut its teeth on the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyer program, constructing pre-outfitted blocks of up to 700-ton steelweight for ship assembly elsewhere in the U.K. at yards controlled by BAE Systems. Toronto Welcomes First Short Sea Shipping Barge of 2006

On March 26, a cargo of heavy automotive production machinery was transferred from the Federal Manitou at the Port of Toronto onto a barge destined for Port Stanley, Ontario thereby initiating the 2006 short sea shipping season. Earlier that day, the Federal Manitou was honored on its arrival as the first ocean-going cargo ship of the shipping season into the Port of Toronto. Its cargo was specialized automotive production machinery manufactured in Germany and loaded onto the Federal Manitou in Antwerp, Belgium. "The concept of short sea shipping has never been more relevant or important," said Lisa Raitt, President and CEO of the Toronto Port Authority.
