DNV GL Appoints Peter Brun as New Global Offshore Wind Segment Leader
DNV GL, the world’s largest independent energy advisory and certification body, has appointed wind energy professional Peter Brun as Global Offshore Wind Segment Leader. Brun is responsible for stakeholder management, alliance building and promoting offshore wind development throughout the world. Brun brings more than 26 years of experience in the wind energy industry and international diplomacy. His rich and varied expertise in the wind industry, includes holding dual Vice Chairman roles at EWEA (now WindEurope) and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) between 2009 to 2013. He was also Chairman of the Danish Wind Energy Association from 2007 to 2011.
Seaborne Ethane and Demand for a New Ship Type
Lloyd's Register report looks at the commercial landscape, regulatory issues and technical realities of a new trade in ethane emerging as a result of increased U.S. U.S. ethane production capability, as a byproduct of total increased U.S. gas production, is underutilized. The potential exists for annual exports of 1 million metric tons of ethane to provide employment for 0.18 million cubic meters of shipping capacity if shipped to North Europe, a further 0.32 Mn Cu M if shipped to South Asia and a similar amount to China through the Panama Canal.
DNV Greater China Offshore Committee
Zhou Shouwei, Vice General Manager of CNOOC (China National Offshore Oil Corporation) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering accepted DNV’s invitation to be the chairman of the DNV Greater China Offshore Committee. The DNV Offshore Committee is the first of its kind to be organized by a classification society in China. “The objective of establishing this committee is to create a forum where senior executives from the Chinese offshore industry can meet to exchange information on new technology, innovation, experiences and practices related to offshore engineering,” said DNV Vice President and Regional Manager Joerg Beiler.
Salvage Association Opens in Houston
The Salvage Association (a trading style of BMT Salvage Ltd.) has established an office in Houston to provide full marine and offshore consultancy services, the resident surveyors being Robert Hoppell and Allan Schultz. The services include project risk management, all types of surveys, including hull and machinery, cargo, P&I, draft and bunker surveys, pollution response, collision investigation and speed and angle-of-blow surveys.
