The Panama Canal Authority (ACP), which manages the 82 kilometers long Panama Canal that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean, has awarded Kongsberg Digital a contract to upgrade and extend the K-Sim Navigation simulators based in SIDMAR; the Center for Simulation, Research and Maritime Development of the Panama Canal Authority. Le Havre Pilot Ops Enhanced with Wärtsilä Simulator
Wärtsilä will supply a complete navigational simulator upgrade for the Le Havre pilot station in France, providing the pilot station with a new simulator adapted to the requirements of the pilots’ operations.The order with Wärtsilä was placed in February 2020.The new unique visualization system to be supplied is based on 14 DP projectors, comprising seven main circular and seven ground projection systems. Cruden to Unveil High Speed Boat Simulator
Cruden is unveiling its new high speed boat simulator at the 7th HSBO Forum (Lisbon, May 4-6). Using detailed modelling and motion cueing techniques, as well as professional image generation developed in the automotive and motorsport industries (including Formula 1TM), the simulator is designed to set a new training standard for offshore, coastguard, naval, search and rescue, and security and control applications. The simulator was developed with data gathered from the Dutch military on its fast interceptor vessels and Florida powerboat specialists.
Rolls-Royce Training Center Opens in Brazil
To better support marine customers in South America, Rolls-Royce has opened a new training center in Brazil, to cater for customers operating the large number of vessels with Rolls-Royce systems that work in country’s deep water oil and gas fields. This upgrade resulted in increased imagery resolution and vertical coverage, improved color management and made overall system maintenance more efficient.
MPT Upgrades Simulator System
Maritime Professional Training (MPT) has upgraded its simulator, and the maritime training and education provider is claiming that it will be world’s most visually realistic maritime simulator training experience. The system – which provides a true-to-life preview of a career at sea – is a result of MPT's plans to upgrade the visual projection systems of the Main Bridge located at their S.M.A.R.T. (Simulation For Maritime Assessment, Research and Training) Campus in Fort Lauderdale.
SCI Welcomes Upgrades and COE Designation
Some important announcements were made during the 9th Annual River Bell Awards Luncheon at the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) Center in Paducah, KY. Leaders from Ingram Barge Company and AEP River Operations revealed that their companies would lead the effort to fund important upgrades to the simulators in Paducah. Upgrades to the Center’s simulation Center come on the heels of significant funding from West Kentucky Workforce Investment Board in August of this year. All computer hardware, software and radars will be replaced and the geographical databases will be updated.
MITAGS Technology Center to Celebrate Grand Opening of Simulation Technology Center
The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) will celebrate the grand opening of its marine simulation technology center on March 26. The event will include a reception, entertainment, and continuous tours of the various technology centers including the full-mission bridges, the towing simulators, the 14-station computer lab, the vessel traffic, the All-Weather Navigation, and the new crane simulator. This is one of the largest and most sophisticated class A full-mission simulators in the world and it has been upgraded and integrated into two towing, six part-tasks, and one vessel traffic simulators.
