Kongsberg Maritime announced it has been selected by shipbuilder Austal USA to supply its Promas propulsion system to the latest ship in the U.S. Coast Guard’s Heritage Class Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) program.This initial contract is to supply Kongsberg Maritime equipment for the fifth ship, Coast Guard Cutter Pickering, which is the first to be built by Austal USA at its yard in Mobile, Ala.Built to replace the Coast Guard’s medium endurance cutters, the OPC program is expected to run up to 25 ships. The OPC vessels will be able to provide long range patrol capability.

Kongsberg Maritime on Monday announced it has won a contract to supply design, engineering, and equipment for two MGO/biofuel and methanol-ready chemical tankers for Swedish tanker operator Sirius Rederi AB. The low emission 15,000dwt tanker vessels will feature a range of Kongsberg Maritime equipment and can operate on battery-powered hybrid propulsion. Options for further vessels are included.This latest contract builds on a current nine-ship program with fellow Swedish owner Terntank, with a similar design and equipment package.

Kongsberg Maritime has won a contract to upgrade the propulsion systems on five ro-ro passenger ferries for Italian operator Moby. The vessel upgrades will together reduce CO2 emissions by more than 30,000 tons per year.Moby operates a fleet of ro-ro passenger ferries, operating in the western Mediterranean, including routes between the Italian mainland, Sicily, and Sardinia.Three of the ships, the Moby Vinci, the Sharden, and the Moby Aki, will all receive a Promas Lite propulsion system, which combines rudder and propeller into one propulsion unit.

Rolls-Royce has received a supply order from Spain’s Astilleros Gondan shipyard for the design, propulsion and auxiliary machinery systems for what has been dubbed one of world’s most advanced fishing vessels.Scheduled for delivery in 2020 to Prestfjord Seafood, a division of Norway’s Holmøy Maritime, the 77m trawler will be based on a Rolls-Royce NVC 732 WP design arranged with triple trawl and pelagic trawl for operation in Arctic waters catching white fish and shrimps. Rolls-Royce said it has signed a deal with WestSea Yard, part of Martifer Group, to equip an expeditionary oceanic cruise ship for Portuguese based cruise company Mystic Cruises. The vessel, to be called the MS World Explorer, will be the company’s first expeditionary oceanic cruise ship. The MS World Explorer will offer expeditionary cruise itineraries in Antarctica from November to March and this new vessel’s inaugural Antarctic season is already fully chartered to, and being distributed globally by, Polar Cruise Company Quark Expeditions.

Rolls-Royce signs extensive equipment orders with Italian cruise ship builder Fincantieri for Viking Cruises' 2 newbuildings. Rolls-Royce won a contract to supply its Promas propulsion system for two new car and truck carrying ships which are being built in Korea for Neptune Lines. Promas is an integrated propeller and rudder system that increases efficiency and manoeuvrability. The vessels, to be built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co (HMD), will also feature steering gear and deck machinery from Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce sign a teaming agreement with Italian company Lauro Shipping to design new gas-powered Environship-concept ferries. This agreement marks the first time that a customer will utilise the Environship concept for a passenger vessel. This follows previous orders for cargo ships which all benefit from a range of Rolls-Royce technologies that will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent compared to similar diesel powered ships. Rolls-Royce won a second order for a vessel from its award winning Environship range. This gas powered ship will be used to supply feed to fish farms along the Norwegian coast. The vessel has been ordered by Norwegian company Eidsvaag AS and will operate a demanding schedule to ensure fish are fed at the same time every week, regardless of weather conditions. The NVC 401 Forage Carrier, is the latest ship design from the Rolls-Royce Environship range and incorporates a variety of features to reduce environmental impact while increasing efficiency.

Rolls-Royce received its first order for vessels based on the Group’s award-winning Environship concept. Rolls Royce will design and provide integrated power and propulsion systems for two technologically advanced cargo vessels, which have been purchased by Norwegian transportation company, Nor Lines AS. These highly efficient ships incorporate a striking wave piercing bow,  gas powered engines and an innovative Promas propulsion system, which combined, significantly improves the overall performance of the vessel, increasing fuel efficiency by up to 18 per cent.
