Schulte Group Buys LNG Specialist PRONAV

Hamburg shipowning and management group Bernhard Schulte has signed a contract for the acquisition of 100% of the shares in the prestigious LNG ship manager PRONAV - subject to merger approval of the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt). The worldwide operating Schulte Group owns about 100 vessels (mainly container, tanker, bulker) and manages 600 vessels in all segments. PRONAV, based in Hamburg, is an internationally renowned ship manager specialized in large LNG tonnage. Schulte Group is currently providing management services for 23 LNG carriers and has one LNG bunkering vessel and one 174,000cbm LNG carrier on order which will join the Schulte fleet in 2018.

Japan Radio Supplies Misje Rederi AS ECDIS Retrofit

ProNav, the Norwegian distributor for Japan Radio Company Ltd. (JRC), was awarded a contract for supplying twenty two ECDIS systems to the entire fleet of Norwegian shipowner Misje Rederi AS. All eleven dual-systems will be supplied and commissioned by Brommeland Elektronikk AS, a part of ProNav's professional sales- and service network. The JRC ECDIS systems are supplied through a leasing program, and Misje Rederi is one of several other shipping companies finding this program as a good solution. Cost-wise it enables the possibilities to have the latest technology in the complete fleet at the same time, the company said, which again is beneficial in regards to type specific training, crew-changes, service etc.

Severn Trent De Nora’s MARINER OMNIPURE® Series M55 Sewage Treatment System selected for use aboard LNG tanker. German ship operator Pronav has chosen the system for use aboard the “LNG Gemini”, a 72,472dwt LNG tanker. The M5508 model, which can treat black and gray water for up to 25 persons, will be installed aboard the vessel in late November 2012 when she is in Subic Bay, Philippines. Vessels generate sewage that can contain contaminants that have a detrimental effect on water quality and the overall marine environment.

Supreme Court of Norway Denies Scanmar Appeal

Marport Deep Sea Technologies Inc., a developer of advanced sonar technology for commercial and military applications, announced that the Supreme Court of Norway has denied Scanmar’s appeal in their lawsuit against Marport. The litigation between Scanmar AS, Scantrawl AS and Henning Skjold-Larsen on one side (“Scanmar”) and Marport Canada Inc, Marport Iceland Ehf and Pronav AS on the other (“Marport”) has finally come to an end. The Supreme Court of Norway concluded that the case contains neither principal matters of importance nor any other circumstances which required an appeal to be heard. patents. Qatargas Gains Two New LNG Vessels

Two new LNG vessels that will join the Qatargas fleet have been handed over to the owners’ consortium by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Ltd (DSME) at its ship building yard in the Geoje Island in South Korea. The vessels Al Ruwais and Al Safliya will now proceed with bunkering and leave South Korea in the next few days. The first cargo will be delivered to Japan using one of these vessels before the year end. Two more vessels are expected to be delivered from other South Korean yards this month. MAN B&W Marks LNG Milestone

Three of the world’s largest LNG-carriers successfully tested their propulsion packages at the end of last month. Each vessel is powered by two 6S70ME-C electronically controlled, two-stroke, lowspeed diesel engines, and this event marks a first for MAN Diesel in the LNG sector. The engines will operate on HFO. The vessels are part of a Qatargas project that comprises an impressive 45 vessels, each fitted with two MAN B&W low-speed prime movers, making for a grand total of 90 electronically controlled two-stroke engines. Of these, 31 QFlex carriers will receive two MAN B&W 6S70ME-C engines, each developing 18,660 kW, while the 14 larger QMax carriers will employ two MAN B&W 7S70ME-C engines, each rated at 21,770 kW at 91 rpm.

Qatargas Names its Q-flex Ships

Qatargas has named the first two Q-Flex LNG vessels - Al Ruwais and Al Safliya - at a ceremony held at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Ltd. (DSME) ship building yard in Geoje Island. The ceremony which was presided over by His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy and Industry and Mr. Neil Duffin, President of ExxonMobil Development Co. officially named the two ships which are the first of 45 large LNG ships to be delivered for Qatar. The Al Ruwais and Al Safliya will be used to ship LNG produced in Qatargas 2, Train 4 to customers in Europe. They are the first of 14 ships that are being built in Korea to service Qatargas Trains 4 and 5.

Petronet LNG to Float Subsidiary

Natural gas importer Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL) plans to float a shipping subsidiary overseas to haul gas to its greenfield re-gassification terminal of 2.5 million tonnes per annum capacity proposed at Kochi in Kerala. The diversification plan has been unveiled in the tender conditions stipulated by Petronet for selecting ship owners and operators for transporting LNG to the Kochi terminal. U.S. Jobs Retained On Reflagged Tankers

U.S officer and seamen jobs on six liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers will be retained after the tankers are reflagged from the U.S. The merchant marine jobs will be guaranteed to American officers and seamen through 2004, according to two agreements announced last week. The agreements were signed by the American Maritime Officers (AMO) union, the Seafarers International Union (SIU) and PRONAV Ship Management, which manages the ships for BLNG Inc. Under the agreements, AMO will fill eight officer berths on the six vessels, and SIU will retain all of the existing billets for the unlicensed crewmen. "Today's unprecedented agreements represent a commitment to American labor," said Michael Dyer, senior partner at Dyer Ellis & Joseph, the law firm representing PRONAV and BLNG.
