Volvo Penta Unveils Its IPS Professional Platform

Volvo Penta has unveiled IPS Professional Platform, its new propulsion offering for superyachts and commercial marine vessels, slated for commercial availability from 2025.Volvo Penta said the new fully integrated helm-to-propeller solution builds on its proven Inboard Performance System (IPS) and Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) technology with enhancements for larger vessels.The flexible platform enables a vessel to have up to eight power sources, and includes matched software, services and support, all integrated via the company’s proprietary EVC technology.

ABB Secures Large Tech Order for Two Wind Turbine Installation Vessels

ABB said Monday it had secured a large order from Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd., to deliver an integrated bridge-to-propeller technology for Havfram Wind’s two new NG20000X-HF Wind Turbine Installation Vessels (WTIVs). The vessels will be able to install offshore wind turbines with a rotor diameter of more than 300 meters, as well as XXL monopiles weighing up to 3,000 tons at water depths of up to 70 meters.ABB scope comprises four Azipod electric main propulsion units with a total propulsion power of 17 MW…

Kongsberg Rolls Out CPX Propeller Lineup

Kongsberg Maritime (KM) announced it is dividing its propeller systems into three distinct categories, C-Line, P-Line, and X-Line.The ‘C’ in C-Line stands for ‘Configured’, and indicates that these propellers are configured within a pre-defined technical spectrum to suit customers whose priorities are short lead times and a strong performance-to-cost ratio, the manufacturer said. Numerous options are available within the C-Line propeller solution to fine-tune the offering further, presented in a lucid and straightforward manner which simplifies the decision process for customers.

Rolls-Royce Acquires Ship Control Systems Supplier Servowatch

Rolls-Royce Equips Hybrid/LNG Live Fish Carrier

Nordlaks in Stokmarknes, Norway, is currently building a 385m long and 60m wide offshore salmon farm. The installation is being built at the CIMC Raffles yard in China. Nordlaks has also ordered a new hybrid/LNG live fish carrier (wellboat) to be built at the Tersan shipyard in Turkey. Rolls-Royce has been commissioned to provide equipment for both newbuilds, which have been designed by NSK Ship Design.Rolls-Royce will supply six TT1100 tunnel thrusters to the massive fish farm, which has been designed to produce salmon further offshore than has been possible so far.

Hansen A/S has developed a highly efficient 50 meter factory trawler with a focus on operating efficiency and maximised catch processing facilities. The design delivers excellent fuel economy, reduced environmental impact, and the flexibility to be operated as a single or pair trawler. Fishing is well known to be an environmentally sustainable method of food production. Greenhouse gas emissions are far lower than the equivalent land-based meat production.

MAN Diesel Expands CP Propeller Portfolio

In response to the market demand for very large CP propellers up to and beyond 30,000 kW and with diameters over eight meters, MAN Diesel is expanding its propeller portfolio to add two new, propeller hub-sizes – VBS2080 and VBS2240 (2080 mm and 2240 mm hub diameters respectively). These propeller sizes are typically destined for ConRo vessels, shuttle tankers and special vessels with high ice classes, and powered by MAN B&W two-stroke MC-C or ME-C main engines that directly drive a CP propeller.

Feature: Schottel Broadens Electric Propulsion Options

German engineers have strengthened the Schottel offering through the development of a propulsor which melds technical design and performance features of the company's proprietary, azimuthing Rudderpropeller series with those of electric podded drives. The resulting hybrid system, known as the Schottel Combi Drive (SCD) and distinguished by its compactness and inboard placement of the integral electric motor, has been designed for unit power applications in the 1,900 to 3,800-kW range. The innovative new product employs proven mechanical elements from the Rudderpropeller design and the latter's optimized-efficiency, Twin-Propeller (STP) version.
