Vigor to Build 2 More San Francisco Ferries
Vigor said it was awarded the contract to build two additional ferries for WETA (the Water Emergency Transportation Authority) in San Francisco, Calif. The shipbuilder started constructing the first two WETA ferries in this class in spring 2015, said Tim Kolb, General Manager of Vigor Ballard. Marine Jet Power has been awarded a repeat order to supply waterjets to another 3 units Patrol Killer Experimental (PKX-B) fast attack craft for the Korean Navy. First Ship Set to Enter BAE Systems’ New Dry Dock
BAE Systems will dock the first ship in its new floating dry dock, Pride of California, on Thursday, February 23. The docking of the San Diego-based amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18) is expected to take up to five hours. The docking was originally planned for Wednesday, February 22, but was pushed back due to high wind conditions in San Diego. At 950 feet long and capable of lifting 55,000 long tons, BAE Systems’ new Pride of California dry dock is the largest floating dry dock in California.

Marine Jet Power Wins Korean Coast Guard Contracts
Marine Jet Power has been awarded two new contracts to supply waterjets for another eight units 500T Patrol Vessels for the Korean Coast Guard: five vessels to be built by Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction and three vessels to be built by Kangnam Corporation. The propulsion system comprises a MJP 950 double drive and MJP 750 double booster waterjets. Powered by four diesel engines at a total of 14 MW the top speed is over 35 knots. The eight new vessels will be delivered during 2018, continuing the existing 500T-program and extending the series to now comprise a total of 23 vessels.
AAM Wins Hybrid Passenger Vessel Contract
All American Marine, Inc. (AAM), inked a deal for the construction of a new hybrid electric passenger vessel to be delivered to the Red and White Fleet of San Francisco, California. The contract for the new 600 passenger aluminum monohull was signed during the recent annual Maritrends Conference put on by the Passenger Vessel Association. AAM’s latest contract follows an earlier announcement made by the company regarding a construction agreement for a 500 passenger aluminum monohull tour boat for Argosy Cruises of Seattle, WA.
Louis Dreyfus Orders Wind Farm Vessel from Cemre
Louis Dreyfus Armateurs Group (LDA) said it has ordered a wind farm service operation vessel (SOV) from Cemre shipyard in Turkey. The vessel will be delivered in Q4 2018 and chartered to DONG Energy Wind Power A/S for operations at four wind farms off the German coast (Borkum Riffgrund 1&2, Gode Wind 1&2). The vessel has been designed in cooperation with Salt Ship Design to enable technicians to perform maintenance on wind turbines. Wärtsilä and PGS Geophysical AS have signed a service agreement that makes Wärtsilä the preferred service supplier for engines and other Wärtsilä equipment. According to the agreement, Wärtsilä will take care of the maintenance of engines and propulsion systems on board PGS's fleet of 8 seismic vessels, securing maximum uptime as well as safe and economic operations. PGS's seismic vessels are used for mapping and analysing the subsurface beneath the ocean floor for oil and gas exploration around the world.

Power and automation technology group ABB has introduced Azipod D, a new addition to its line of Azipod electric propulsion offering, allowing a wider range of vessel types to utilize the Azipod propulsion system. ABB Saves 700,000 tons Fuel for Marine Vessels
ABB today announced the total fuel savings of the entire installed Azipod fleet since being launched is estimated to be more than 700,000 tons. ABB Wins LNG Propulsion Contract
Chantiers de l´Atlantique, ALSTOM Group, has awarded ABB Marine a contract to supply the electric propulsion system for a new 153,000 cu. M. LNG carrier, owned by Gaz de France. The vessel will be built in France by Chantiers de l´Atlantique and delivered in 2005. The supply of medium voltage power systems to LNG carriers has been a strong growth area for ABB. According to Martinus Brandal, head of ABB´s global Marine business, “In the last three years, we have received orders for medium-voltage systems for 23 LNG carriers with conventional steam turbine propulsion. To the new Gaz de France LNG carrier, ABB will supply a complete propulsion drive system in a redundant electrical configuration.

Wärtsilä announced the launch of a unique Propulsion Condition Monitoring Service (PCMS), designed to provide customers with real-time data and advanced analytics on the condition of a vessel's propulsion equipment. Ship owners will have access to information and analysis needed to ensure that propulsion systems operate at peak efficiency throughout their lifecycle. PCMS allows ship operators to prevent damage and lower life cycle costs, as well as limit their vessel's environmental impact by keeping propulsion systems operating at high efficiency.
