U.S. Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Lease Sale Set for March

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) said Friday that it would hold an oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico in March 2023.The Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Lease Sale 259 will offer approximately 13,600 blocks on 73.3 million acres in the Western, Central, and Eastern Planning Areas on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. Lease Sale 259 was one of three offshore lease sales initially cancelled by the Biden Administration in May 2022. U.S. to Hold Offshore Wind Lease Sale for Two Areas in the Carolinas

Company to Pay $9.5 Mln for Actions Leading to US Gulf Explosion

Wood Group PSN Inc., a Nevada corporation headquartered in Houston, was ordered to pay $9.5 million in two separate cases involving its conduct in the Gulf of Mexico. Specifically, Wood Group PSN was ordered to pay $7 million for falsely reporting over several years that personnel had performed safety inspections on offshore facilities in the Gulf of Mexico in the Western District of Louisiana, and $1.8 million for negligently discharging oil into the Gulf of Mexico in violation of the Clean Water Act after an explosion on an offshore facility in the Eastern District of Louisiana, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General Jeff Wood of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana Stephanie A. US Offshore Wind Faces Pushback from Fishing Groups

The auction for the rights to the wind farm off the coast of New York has encountered pushback from fishing groups concerned about the impact a large-scale wind project will have on the access to prime fishing areas. The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) was set to administer the lease sale on December 15, when a petition to delay the auction was presented to the federal court. The U.S Bureau of Ocean Energy and Management (BOEM) requires an extensive stakeholder marine spatial planning process that de-conflicts the wind energy area prior to the Point of Sale Notice (PSN).

Taqa Extends Wood Group Contract

Wood Group has secured a two-year contract extension with TAQA in the North Sea. Wood Group PSN, will continue to provide engineering, construction and maintenance services to five offshore assets - Cormorant Alpha, North Cormorant, Eider, Tern and Harding – extending an agreement in place since 2008. The value of the deal extension has not been disclosed. The two-year contract, effective immediately, also includes options for three, one year extensions. Wood Group Extends North Sea Chevron Contract

Wood Group has secured an extension to continue to support Chevron Upstream Europe across four offshore assets in the North Sea. Wood Group PSN (WGPSN) will deliver operations and maintenance services to the Alba Northern platform, Alba floating storage unit, Captain floating production, storage and offloading vessel and Captain wellhead protector platform, under the one year contract that extends an agreement in place since 2010. Effective immediately, the contract retains more than 30 jobs and adds to Wood Group's support of Chevron in the UKCS; Wood Group Kenny recently performed the subsea engineering of the trees, wellheads, controls and polymer injection flowlines to the subsea injection wells for Chevron's Captain Enhanced Oil Recovery Project.

Wood Group Wins PetroRio's Brazil Contract

Wood Group has been awarded a new contract by PetroRio to deliver services to the Polvo A platform, in the southern Campos basin, approximately 100 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Integrated operations and maintenance services will be provided by Wood Group PSN under the two year contract, which is effective immediately. The contract builds on Wood Group’s experience supporting the Polvo field, which consists of a fixed production and drilling platform connected to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). Wood Group Kenny has held two contracts to provide integrity management support to the field, the most recent of which completed in early 2015.

Black Elk Energy Offshore Operations LLC, Grand Isle Shipyards Inc., Wood Group PSN Inc., as well as Don Moss, 46, of Groves, Texas, Curtis Dantin, 50, of Cut-Off, La., and Christopher Srubar, 40, of Destrehan, La., have been charged with crimes for a November 2012 explosion on an oil production platform that resulted in the death of three workers, the injury of others and an oil spill, announced the Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Manslaughter Charges Filed in 2012 Oil Platform Blast

Two companies involved in the deadly 2012 explosion of an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico have been indicted on federal charges of involuntary manslaughter, the U.S. Justice Department said in a statement on Thursday. Black Elk Energy Offshore Operations LLC and Grand Isle Shipyards Inc. were charged on Thursday with three counts of involuntary manslaughter, eight charges involving federal safety laws and one violation of the Clean Water Act. Three people and a third company, Wood Group PSN Inc., also face criminal charges related to the explosion, the department said. Those charges include felony violations of the Clean Water Act and other federal safety laws.

Kemp Succeeds Semple at Wood Group

Wood Group announced following changes to its senior management team. Alan Semple, chief financial officer (CFO) has advised the board that he intends to retire and step down from his current role and from the board at the company’s annual general meeting in May 2015, at which time he will have held senior financial roles with Wood Group for over 19 years. Alan has been CFO and a member of the board since 2000. David Kemp, CFO of Wood Group PSN will succeed Alan and will join the board as an executive director following the 2015 annual general meeting. To ensure effective management of this change, David will assume the role of deputy CFO from 1 January 2015.

Ensuring that participants can fully comply with the ISM code, the course also offers practical knowledge that helps superintendents in their daily work. The course is intended for junior technical superintendents, engineers or maritime officers who wish to take the next step to become superintendents, technical managers and professionals; also for equipment suppliers who want to learn more about the work of technical superintendents. It may also be a welcome refresher course for experienced technical superintendents. Some practical experience is a must. Managing costs are an essential part of the tasks of the superintendent.

Wood Group Forms Joint Venture With ABT Oil & Gas

Wood Group PSN (WGPSN) announced that it has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) with ABT Oil and Gas Ltd (“ABTOG”) to create a 50/50 jointly controlled entity. It is proposed that the new entity will deliver services dedicated to the development of projects for stranded and marginal hydrocarbon fields, initially in the North Sea utilising ABTOG’s intellectual property for buoyant technology and the engineering, project management and delivery execution expertise of WGPSN. The new entity will not participate in field ownership. WGPSN employs approximately 12,000 people onshore and offshore in the UK. The company has offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Runcorn and Hull.

Double Triumph for Stork Technical Services

U.K. Offshore Maintenance Contract for XPD8 Solutions

Aberdeen, Scotland-based XPD8 Solutions' condition monitoring team secures contracts valued at more than £2-million. The company, which specializes in the management of maintenance systems for oil and gas producing assets, has been awarded contracts to deliver further condition monitoring support to CNR, Wood Group PSN and Hess over the next three years. XPD8 currently has a full order book, and to prepare for future growth the company will create 18 positions across all departments in 2013. The contract to provide condition monitoring services to CNRÂ’s platforms in the North Sea will see XPD8 maintain its existing links with the operator stretching back more than five years.

BOEM: Potential Research Lease Offshore Virginia

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) received an unsolicited request for a research lease in the Wind Energy Area (WEA) off Virginia identified for commercial wind leasing. The research would inform future renewable energy production within and around the WEA off Virginia. BOEM seeks public input on the research proposal. Virginia’s Department of Mines Minerals and Energy submitted the request to conduct wind energy-related research activities, including installation of two meteorological and ocean monitoring platforms to collect data on wind velocities, water levels, waves, and bird and bat activities. Decommissioning Body Elects New Directors

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil & gas decommissioning forum, held its annual general meeting last night in St Andrews, with 10 new directors elected from across all sectors of the decommissioning industry. The meeting heard that the supply chain body now has 213 fee paying members. Attendees were also given an overview of Decom North Sea activity over the past year and an update on progress against the various strategic objectives. Barclays Corporate oil and gas team announces it has provided funding for global energy deals amounting to US$1.26billion so far this year. The facilities have been provided for organisations operating in the UK and internationally, comprising bilateral and syndicated debt and trade lines for activities such as mergers and acquisitions as well as corporate funding.
