New SOLAS Regulations Go into Effect
Amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) affecting many aspects of ship safety go into effect on July 1, including a new revised SOLAS chapter on fire protection, fire detection and fire extinction, amendments to chapters II-1, IX and X (to make a new High-Speed Craft Code mandatory) and record of equipment attached to safety certificates. ATC Gets USS Harry S. Truman Contract
American Technology Corporation (ATC) received another order for NeoPlanar-based SoundSaber acoustic panels for installation in the hangar bays of nuclear powered aircraft carriers. The order and installation for the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) comes on the heels of the successful installation of SoundSaber acoustic panels aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) in December 2005. The aggregate amount of the orders is approximately $405,000. The SoundSaber acoustic panels are a part of a mission critical system for general announcing and emergency notification. The SoundSaber line has passed Grade “A” shock and vibration and received a Common Intelligibility Standard grade of 0.95 out of 1.00; typical outdoor public address systems grade between 0.75 and 0.79.
4,000 hp Z-Drive Tug Delivered to Crescent Towing
Bollinger Shipyards delivered Savannah, a 4,000-hp, Z-Drive tug, to Crescent Towing of New Orleans. Savannah - which measures 96 x 34 x 14.75 ft. - is Crescent Towing's 24th tug overall, and is the second Z-drive tug. Savannah is powered by two Caterpillar 3516B diesel engines developing a total of 4,000 hp, driving two Ulstein 1650H Z-Drives connected to NiBrAl propellers in nozzles. Each Z-Drive unit can be operated independently through 360 degrees. Bollinger Delivers Z-Drive Tug Savannah
Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has delivered the 4,000 HP, Z-Drive tug Savannah, to Crescent Towing, New Orleans. It is the second Z-Drive tug in the Crescent Towing fleet, which now totals 24 tugs. Savannah is 96 ft. long, with a 34-ft. beam and a 14.75-ft. depth. It is powered by two Caterpillar 3516B diesel engines developing a total of 4,000 HP. They drive two Ulstein 1650H Z-Drives connected to nibral propellers in nozzles.
