Saga Sells Cruise Ship to Turkey's Anex Tour

Saga announced it has completed the sale of cruise ship Saga Sapphire to Anex Tour, a family-run Turkish tour operator. The ship is scheduled to reenter service as Blue Sapphire operating for Anex Tour’s new cruise line in 2021.While many cruise ships are currently being sold or scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Saga Sapphire sale is unrelated to COVID-19. RCCL Taps SGS for Maintenance and Repair

Subsea Global Solutions (SGS) has entered into an agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL). Under the agreement SGS will provide underwater hull maintenance and repair services for their fleet of 58 ships trading under six different brands (Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity, Azamara, TUI, Silversea, and Pullmantur). The  new agreement is a continuation of the long term relationship between the two companies.

Ctrip, Royal Caribbean Cruises to End SkySea Joint Venture

Royal Caribbean Cruises and Ctrip announced today that they are ending the SkySea Cruise Line joint venture. TUI AG's Marella Cruises has agreed to purchase Golden Era, with delivery expected in December, 2018. As a result of this transaction, TUI Cruises will now retain Mein Schiff 2 in its fleet, rather than selling it to Marella Cruises, giving TUI Cruises increased capacity in the strong German market. After the sale of Golden Era, it is expected that SkySea will wind down its business operations before the end of 2018. The companies expect that favorable business conditions in China and elsewhere will allow them to absorb most SkySea employees into available positions at RCL and Ctrip.

Royal Caribbean to Install NavBox Across Entire Fleet

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCC) has signed a deal with NAVTOR to install the NavBox navigation solution across its entire corporate fleet of 49 vessels, in a deal which spans RCC's six different operating companies. E-navigation specialist NAVTOR launched NavBox in 2013. The solution, which complements NAVTOR’s range of electronic navigational chart (ENC) based services, automatically downloads, distributes and updates all vessel navigational charts and publications, cutting administration time, while ensuring the very latest, compliant charts are always at hand.

Royal Caribbean Posts 4Q Profit

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd reported 2015 results and provided guidance for 2016. Continuing on its Double-Double trajectory, the company’s adjusted earnings for 2015 were $4.83 per share – up 42% over 2014, and are expected to further increase to $5.90 – $6.10 in 2016. The world's second-largest cruise operator posted net income in the period of $206.8 million or 94 cents a share. That compared with $109.7 million, or 49 cents, the year before, the company announced. Revenue in the quarter rose 4.6 percent to $1.9 billion from a year ago. Still, while Royal Caribbean's earnings per share beat analysts' estimates of 92 cents, it missed the revenue forecast of $1.95 billion, according to Zacks Equity Research.

Microsoft Mogul's Yacht Destroys Coral Reefs

The anchor chain of 303-foot mega-yacht, the Tatoosh, belonging to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has been blamed for destroying a large area of protected coral reef in the Cayman Islands. It destroyed almost 14,000 square foot, or about 80 per cent,  of reef in a protected area in the West Bay area of the Cayman Islands, according to the islands' Department of Environment (DoE). Allen's Seattle-based Vulcan Inc organisation, which manages his fortune, said on Wednesday that the M/V Tatoosh was moored on January 14 in a "position explicitly directed" by the local port authority and that his team was co-operating with the investigation. CNN reported that Mr Allen could face a maximum fine of roughly $US600,000, not counting civil damages.

MAN PrimeServ informs it has won the contract from Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) to retrofit the turbochargers aboard four cruise liners from its fleet. The contract covers the retrofit of a total of 30 turbochargers aboard four vessels – two operated by Royal Caribbean International, and two operated by Pullmantur, a wholly-owned RCCL subsidiary, along with attachment kits and technical support. The vessels Grandeur of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas – both equipped with four x 12V48/60 MAN engines – will be retrofitted with 16 x TCA55 turbochargers…

Another Megaship to Join Royal Caribbean Cruise Fleet

Royal Caribbean has ordered a fourth ship for its Quantum Class family of ships from Meyer Werft. The ship will be delivered in 2019. With two Quantum-class vessels already delivered and a third under construction, Royal Caribbean Cruises on Thursday announced plans to order a fourth. The Miami-based cruise ship company said it had entered into an agreement with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany to build the 4,180-passenger vessel. The sister ship to Quantum and Anthem of the Seas will be delivered in 2019, three years after Ovation of the Seas joins the fleet of Royal Caribbean International. Richard D. Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas is expected to debut in 2016 and will be the world's largest cruise ship.

Saga Cruises has highlighted Gibraltar’s continuing attractions for cruise owners, returning to Gibdock for repair and maintenance work on one of the "grand old ladies" of the cruise industry, the 24,492grt, 670-passenger capacity Saga Ruby. Gibdock Prepares Five-Star Floating Hotel

The 189-room five-star floating hotel Sunborn Gibraltar is due to welcome its first guests in February 2014, after Gibraltar shipyard Gibdock drew on its extensive cruise ship expertise to undertake hull blasting and coating work. Despite its role as a tourist and business travel destination Gibraltar does not have a five-star hotel. The 142m long, seven deck Sunborn Gibraltar resembles a sophisticated high-end cruise ship or mega yacht. However, while the vessel can move under its own power, it has been designed for sustained mooring alongside, and features its own heavy-duty mooring arms.

Singapore's Sembcorp Marine Becomes RCL Favoured Shipyard

Sembcorp's Sembawang Shipyard gets ship repair Favoured Customer Contract (FCC) from Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL). Cruise Ship Oufitting – Mivan Gets More Big Contracts

MIVAN  announced at the recent Cruise Shipping Miami show that it had secured over £4 million of cruise ship outfitting orders for 2012 in Europe. The largest of these contracts is the £1.7 million re- fit of the Crystal Symphony for Crystal Cruises. The 2 week fit -out will take place in June in Blohm & Voss, Hamburg. This is the second contract Mivan has secured with the Crystal Cruises following the successful fit-out of the retail areas of the Crystal Serenity in May 2011.

Back-to-Back Cruise Dockings for Gibdock

Back-to-back cruise ship projects at Gibdock’s No. 1 dock have seen the return of the 37,584gt, 1,575-passenger capacity Thomson Destiny for its fourth visit since a first refit in Gibraltar in 2006. Gibdock Quickly Repairs Pullmantur Zenith

Gibdock Completes Work on Spirit of Adventure

Gibraltar-based Gibdock has recently completed a drydocking contract for UK-based Saga Holidays. Last month, the niche cruise operator docked the 9,570gt, 139m long Spirit of Adventure for a 10 day program of works, including steel repairs to the bulbous bow and a comprehensive external clean and repaint. Royal Caribbean 55% Increase in Q3

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Royal Caribbean - Amaral Dir. Brazil Ops

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has selected Brazilian cruise industry veteran Ricardo Amaral as managing director of its operations in Brazil. In the newly created position, Amaral will oversee all commercial and operational activities for three of the company's brands, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises. Amaral will assume his new position in January. Amaral has 17 years of experience in the cruise industry, which includes working for leading cruise companies as their local representative and head of their marketing and sales operations in Brazil. For the past nine years, Amaral has worked as the director of Marketing and Sales for Sun and Sea Representacoes, the company that has represented Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. in Brazil for 21 years.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Finalizes Pullmantur Purchase

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has completed its purchase of Madrid-based cruise and tour operator Pullmantur S.A. Closing documents were signed today in Madrid. In August, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. signed an agreement with Pullmantur’s shareholders to buy all the company’s capital stock. Last month, the company received regulatory approval for the acquisition.

RCL to Transfer Sovereign of the Seas

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. said that Royal Caribbean International's Sovereign of the Seas will be reassigned to the company's Pullmantur fleet, and the Los Angeles-based Monarch of the Seas will assume Sovereign of the Seas' sailings out of Port Canaveral. These changes will take place in October and November 2008. "We are fortunate that our mix of brands allows us the flexibility and opportunity to expand in key strategic markets and to diversify in existing ones," said Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Adam Goldstein. Sovereign of the Seas' last scheduled sailing for Royal Caribbean International will be on October 31, 2008.

RCL Starts New Cruise Line Geared to French Market

Continuing its expansion in Europe, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced it is launching a new cruise brand, CDF Croisières de France, committed to the French market. The new brand will begin sailing its first ship, Bleu de France, in May, 2008, after the ship has completed extensive renovations and undergone a cultural transformation wholly adapting the brand experience to French tastes. The new line will operate one ship initially when it begins operations. The 376-cabin ship was the former luxury liner Europa when it was owned by Hapag Lloyd. Royal Caribbean Cruises Implements Fuel Supplement

In an effort to deal with the sharp increase in fuel prices, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced the implementation of a fuel supplement of $5 per guest per day for sailings that depart on or after February 1, 2008. The company has taken measures to soften the impact of this decision. For example, the company will not apply the supplement on any bookings where the guest has already paid the full cost of the cruise. In addition, guests who were booked before November 16, and who do not agree to pay the supplement, may cancel their reservation prior to December 7, 2007, for a full refund of all monies they have paid to the company, and they will not be subject to any cancellation charges that would normally apply.
