Dellner Brakes: Serving Inland and Coastal Waterways Markets

A luffing and trolley travel hoist for bagged material used by two vessel loaders at Lake Charles, Louisiana. The hoists are fitted with Dellner SKP service brakes with mounting stands installed between the hoist motors and the reduction gears. The brakes were also manufactured with extra protection to prevent corrosion from sea water.

Dellner provides a range of clutch and braking products for the inland (brown water) and coastal workboat markets. Dellner products are used in a wide range of workboats including tugs, fishing boats and coast guard vessels. Major customers include US Seafoods, Trident Seafoods, Pesca Azteca, Frabelle Fishing, Western Rivers, ARTCO, Campbell Transportation, Moran Towing, Crowley Maritime, Excell Marine, Hunter Marine, Canal Barge, Andrie, Foss Maritime, Kirby Corporation, Sause Bros and Seaspan.

Norwegian Navy Embraces Electrification

GE’s Power Conversion business (NYSE: GE) has announced that it is working with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) in South Korea to provide an electrical power and propulsion system for a Norwegian Defence Logistics Organization (NDLO) logistics and support vessel (LSV). GE’s equipment will be installed as a key part of the ship’s hybrid propulsion system, improving fuel efficiency and operating flexibility. In October 2012, GE’s Power Conversion business announced a similar project for the U.K.

Valve Train Halves Idle to Full Load Time

One of the  new tools that engine builders are using these days to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions is Valve Control Management (VCM), ABB’s variable valve train system, more so since duel-fuel engines become an increasingly popular choice by shipowners. Fireboat Chief Seattle Delivered

Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering company Guido Perla and Associates, Inc. (GPA) announced the completion on time and within budget of a major renovation of the fireboat Chief Seattle at Vigor Marine in Everett, Washington. Under the direction of the City of Seattle’s Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS), GPA’s team managed the project from initiation to delivery, working closely with FAS, Vigor Marine and the Seattle Fire Department. The 96 feet 6 inches Chief Seattle, built in 1984, replaces the Alki, built in 1927, as the city’s primary freshwater fireboat.
