The Northern Lights carbon capture and storage JV in Norway is increasing CO2 shipping capacity with its third LCO2 carrier. Like the first two vessels, the gas equipment specialist Svanehøj will supply the cargo pump system. "The three ships are the world's largest of their kind, and the order represents a significant milestone for Svanehøj's ambitions in Carbon Capture and Storage," Svanehøj said.In 2022, the Danish gas equipment specialist was chosen as the cargo pump supplier for the first two Northern Lights LCO2 carriers.

Sweden's Alfa Laval has secured two orders to supply Framo pumping systems for two FPSOs to operate offshore Brazil.Alfa Laval did not say who the clients were but said the orders had a total value of around SEK 155 million (around USD 17,7 million). The deliveries are scheduled for 2021. Martijn Bergink has taken over as CEO of pumping systems manufacturer Framo.Former Framo CEO Sameer Kalra has officially handed Bergink responsibility for the business as Kalra becomes the new head of the Alfa Laval Marine Division and a member of the Alfa Laval Group management.As CEO of Framo and President of Business Unit Pumping Systems, Bergink will be based out of Bergen. He is educated chemical engineer and holds an McS degree in Chemistry. He began working for Alfa Laval in the Netherlands in 1998 and most recently held the position of President of Business Unit Boiler and Gas Systems.

Norwegian shipyard Aas Mekaniske Verksted has awarded compatriot pump supplier PG Flow Solutions a deal to deliver pump systems to another new vessel the yard is building for wellboat company Sølvtrans.Pump and liquid handling specialist PG Flow Solutions will deliver eight of the company’s large seawater circulation pumps that ensure continuous seawater circulation in the boat’s well.Additionally, the company will supply all engine room pumps that are required for the main engine and support engines, plus generic pump requirements for operating the wellboat. The equipment will be delivered to Aas Mekaniske Verksted’s yard at Vestnes in Norway.

Order intake for the Alfa Laval  Marine Division decreased in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter, mainly as a result of PureSOx coming in lower, following an extraordinary development in the preceding quarter.According to a stock exchange announcement, both offshore pumping systems and ballast water equipment reported significant growth compared to the third quarter, but not enough to compensate for the swing in PureSOx.Regarding the environmental portfolio of products, the market’s interest in PureSOx was on a continued good level as there was no change to the market’s view that the scrubber technology is a long-term financially attractive solution.Actual order intake was however lower after the extraordinary third quarter…

Irish-domiciled multinational oilfield services company Weatherford said it has made a major enhancement to its ForeSite production optimization platform, which combines physics-based models with advanced data analytics to improve performance across wells, reservoirs, and surface facilities on a single, secure platform.Weatherford, which first introduced the ForeSite platform in May 2017, said the new release expands predictive failure analytics to electric submersible pumping systems (ESPs) and adds complete optimization capabilities for plunger-lifted wells.The platform expands capabilities in reciprocating rod lift by adding predictive failure analytics for ESP systems.

A U.S. Navy led team has removed 229,000 gallons of oil from a sunken World War II era German heavy cruiser that has been resting on the seafloor near the Marshall Islands for more than 70 years.After being transferred to the U.S. as a war prize, the cruiser Prinz Eugen was loaded with oil and cargo and used to assess survivability of warships during the Operation Crossroads atomic bomb tests in the Pacific. Wärtsilä has been contracted to provide the ship design for a state-of-the-art factory fishing trawler. Swedish company Alfa Laval  has won an order to supply Framo pumping systems to an FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) vessel to be built in China.The provider of specialized products and engineering solutions based on its key technologies of heat transfer, separation and fluid handling said in a press release that the order has a value of approximately SEK 70 million ($7.72 mln).It was booked late September in the Pumping Systems unit of the Marine Division, with deliveries scheduled for 2019.The order comprises marine pumping systems for crude oil offloading, slop, produced water, off-spec oil and ballast pump duties."I am pleased to announce this order for our Framo pumping systems.

Norwegian suppliers Framo, Maritime Partner, Norbit Aptomar, and NorLense have come together to create the OSRV (Oil Spill Recovery Vessel) Group to offer a complete oil spill response solution. “Our aim is to be a one-stop-shop where we pool our efforts and act as a total systems supplier of safe, highly functional, and well-tested technology. The emergency response equipment has undergone thorough testing and quality assurance drawing on 40 years of oil spill response experience,” says Jørgen Brandt Theodorsen, Area Manager, Oil & Gas Pumping Systems, at Framo.

Norway's Framo AS said it has won a contract to deliver pump systems (sea water lift pumps) for a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) for the ship owner GasLog at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard. Delivery of the systems is scheduled for August 2018. Recetnly Framo has signed a contract with Höegh LNG for the delivery of pumping systems to their new FSRU. The contract is for one unit, with option for three more units which are currently being built at Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea. Framo said its pumps provide significant savings on space and eliminate the need for a separate pump room onboard the ship.

Framo has signed a contract with Höegh LNG for the delivery of pumping systems to their new Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU). The contract is for one unit, with option for three more units which are currently being built at Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea. FSRU is a floating processing and terminal facility used when it is not profitable, or for other reasons not practical, to develop onshore terminals. By using an on-board regasification unit, the liquid gas carried by the LNG tanker is converted to gas prior to being brought ashore.

Vard Holdings Limited said it has secured a contract to build a pelagic trawler for Research Fishing Company, based on Shetland. The contract value is approximately NOK 350 million (roughly $41.4 million USD). In close cooperation with the ship owner, the vessel is designed by Skipsteknisk in Ålesund, Norway. It will also be built, equipped and completed in Norway. Delivery is scheduled from Vard Langsten in 3Q 2018. The U.S. Coast Guard has denied ballast water treatment systems manufacturer DESMI Ocean Guard’s appeal regarding the USCG’s initial decision to reject the use of the MPN test method in type approval testing of ballast water treatment systems. U.S. Coast Guard Guidance Helps to Bring some Clarity to the Debate. In July 2015, the U.S. Coast Guard released Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular 01-15 (“NVIC”), titled Marine Casualty Reporting Procedures Guide with Associated Standard Interpretations. The purpose of the NVIC is to assist vessel owners and operators in understanding the marine casualty reporting requirements, which many in the industry think are about as clear as mud. Confusion as to what constitutes a marine casualty and what incidents need to be reported has persisted in the marine industry for years.

A different kind of emission in the compliance spotlight – above and below decks. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Equipment during its 2012, 56th session submitted a draft revised code on noise levels onboard ships. The code set out mandatory noise level limits for machinery spaces, control rooms, workshops, cargo blocks and accommodation spaces in an effort to address health and safety issues on board ships, ATB’s and/or tugboats.
