Ingalls Awards Nearly $108,000 in School Grants

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has awarded nearly $108,000 in grants for 25 different projects from schools and educational organizations in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The grants, which were requested by all of the organizations, will be used for projects associated with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This is the sixth year for Ingalls' STEM program. The company has awarded more than $500,000 for STEM-related projects during that period.

Ingall Shipbuilding Awards Grants to Local Schools

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII)  announced that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has awarded $70,500 in grants to 19 school districts and organizations in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The grants will be used by the districts for various science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) projects. "These STEM grants provide school districts with resources that math and science teachers can use to get students excited about solving hard problems," said Irwin F. Edenzon, president, Ingalls Shipbuilding. "Keeping up with and exploiting technology advancements, especially in shipbuilding, continues to be a critical part of how we meet our customer's needs. It will be even more important in the future.

Grieg Shipping Chooses AMOS

The Norwegian company ā€˜Grieg Shipping Groupā€™, has signed a contract with SpecTec Norway for the  supply of  AMOS  software. Grieg Shipping Group belongs to the Grieg Group, one of the largest Management Service Companies of Scandinavia. Founded in 1884, The Grieg Group established a shipping branch in 1961, ā€˜Star Shippingā€™, which became Grieg Shipping Company in 2008. Today the company owns 26 OHGC (open-hatch general cargo vessels) fleet, and it has just taken delivery of 4 new state-of-the-art open hatch vesselsā€¦

Xantic Releases AMOS Version With MarineProvider

In joint co-operation, MarineProvider and Xantic (former SpecTec) have built an integration module linking the AMOS Maintenance & Purchase software (AMOS M&P) version 5.0 with MarineProvider's e-procurement solution. "Each customer that upgrades to AMOS M&P version 5.0 receives a complete e-Procurement enabled version that contains everything needed to work seamlessly with MarineProvider's e-procurement solution. AMOS users do not need any special additional patches or custom configuration work done", says Collin Lewis, CEO of MarineProvider ASA. "MarineProvider required a much deeper integration than the generic portal driver functionality in our e-commerce module," says Paul Ashton, Director Technology and Innovations of Xantic.

ConocoPhillips Marine Donatation to Help LNG Training

SUNY Maritime College has received a corporate donation of $10,000 from ConocoPhillips Marine to advance Maritimeā€™s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) training and educational program. Maritime will make upgrades to its liquid cargo simulator, increase the number of student stations within the simulator and purchase software for use in LNG tanker simulations. The program will also be expanded to include product tanker and crude oil tanker operations and training. Anthony Palmiotti ā€™79, acting chairman of the department of marine transportation (MT) and director of continuing education says this donation is significant ā€œfor it provides the seed money we need to develop LNG training and curriculum for our undergraduatesā€¦

Visma, Arena To Offer E-Commerce Software To Shippers

Norwegian software supplier Visma ASA signed an agreement of intent with Hong Kong-based Arena to deliver e-commerce solutions to the shipping industry. Arena, which has Hutchison Whampoa and Electronic Data Systems Corp. as main shareholders, has established an electronic handling system to be used by shipping firms and shipping equipment suppliers. Visma officials said the agreement with Arena included a close integration between Visma's AMOS purchase software and Arena's handling system. More than 500 shipping firms already use AMOS software to manage purchases, officials said.
