Safe Bulkers Lines Up More Scrubber Retrofits

In recent years, Greek shipowner Safe Bulkers has retrofitted Alfa Laval PureSOx exhaust gas cleaning systems on 20 of its bulk carriers. The company has just installed its 21st PureSOx scrubber, and four more retrofits are scheduled through the first half of 2023.Safe Bulkers is expanding the retrofit program for exhaust gas cleaning within its fleet. Having now retrofitted an open-loop PureSOx system on the MV Pelopidas, the company will retrofit equivalent systems on four Capesize bulk carriers: MV Aghia Sofia, MV Lake Despina, MV Maria and MV Michalis H.

Safe Bulkers Signs Pact with Alfa Laval

CSA 2020 Applauds DFDS on EGCS Drive

Safe Bulkers Begins Scrubber Program

Chinese Shipping Company Opts for Scrubbers

Alfa Laval announced Wednesday that it has received an order from an unnnamed Chinese shipping company to supply its PureSOx scrubber systems for exhaust gas cleaning for 31 vessels in its fleet.The PureSOx systems for 31 existing vessels, which are among the largest vessels in the world, represent orders booked in 2018 and deliveries extending from early 2019 through the end of the year, Alfa Laval said. Each scrubber will handle exhaust gas from one main engine and three auxiliary engines.

Alfa Laval Q4 Results

The arrival of 2019 leaves just one year until the global sulphur cap becomes reality. But as the marine industry scrambles to ready itself, an important milestone has already been reached. The new year marks a decade since the first vessel set sail with an Alfa Laval PureSOx scrubber on board.In 2009, the RoRo vessel DFDS Ficaria Seaways entered dry dock for an expansion of its cargo space. While the vessel was being rebuilt, a hybrid PureSOx system – able to perform closed-loop as well as open-loop scrubbing – was retrofitted to clean the exhaust gas from its 21 MW main engine.

Safe Bulkers to Install Alfa Laval PureSOx Scrubbers

Grimaldi Group: Alfa Laval PureSOx for Five ACL Vessels

The Grimaldi Group signed an agreement for PureSOx connectivity services on five vessels operated by Atlantic Container Line (ACL). The services will provide not only compliance monitoring, but also valuable data for use in optimizing PureSOx operation. The Grimaldi Group has been using PureSOx for exhaust gas cleaning aboard its vessels since 2014. ACL, a Grimaldi Group company specialized in transatlantic cargo shipping, has hybrid PureSOx scrubber systems installed on all five of its Generation 4 (G4) vessels: Atlantic Sail, Atlantic Sea, Atlantic Sky, Atlantic Star and Atlantic Sun.

Alfa Laval's 100th U-design Scrubber for Grimaldi

The Grimaldi Group has placed orders for seven hybrid Alfa Laval PureSOx systems with U-design scrubbers. The orders are an important milestone, as the second of these systems is also the 100th U-design scrubber to be sold by Alfa Laval. The Grimaldi Group, which is the parent company of Atlantic Container Line, Finnlines and others, is a multinational logistics group based on maritime transport. Specialized in the operation of RoRo vessels, car carriers and ferries, the group has been using Alfa Laval PureSOx systems to meetSOx emission limits since 2014. Finnish shipping operator Finnlines, part of the Grimaldi Group, has placed a service order with Alfa Laval to optimize the performance of its existing Alfa Laval PureSOx scrubber systems. The performance agreement was tailored for Finnlines using the Alfa Laval 360° Service Portfolio, a structured selection of defined service offerings. The Alfa Laval performance agreement with Finnlines covers PureSOx systems installed on board seven RoRo vessels: Finnpulp, Finnmill, Finnhawk, Finnkraft, Finncarrier, Finnmaster and Finnmerchant.

PureSOx Installed on Canadian Cement Carrier

As well as being the established choice of scrubber for Emission Control Areas (ECAs), Alfa Laval PureSOx is proving its capabilities on the Great Lakes. The system will soon be installed on a cement carrier that will operate in the region as part of the NovaAlgoma fleet. NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers Limited has recently expanded its fleet with the M/v Nacc Quebec. This ecologically efficient self-discharging bulker will be converted from an existing vessel in China and will begin her operation in 2017.
