Fugro to Convert Two PSVs to Geotechnical Vessels
Dutch offshore survey firm Fugro will convert the Fugro Resilience and the Topaz Endurance, two ULSTEIN PX121 platform supply vessels (PSVs), to geotechnical vessels, targeting their deployment in the global offshore renewable energy market.Fugro acquired the two platform supply vessels, the Topaz Endurance and the Topaz Energy (renamed Fugro Resilience), in February 2023.Ulstein Design & Solutions AS is responsible for the redesign of the two vessels, and on September 22, 2023, Fugro awarded Ulstein Verft a contract to convert the Fugro Resilience. Both vessels were built in 2015.
Wagenborg's Multi-Purpose Vessel to Support Decommissioning Works in the Southern North Sea

Vessel Retrofits Could Accelerate U.S. Offshore Wind Development
The U.S. Administrationâs strategy to fast-track offshore wind development is exciting for overseas shipbuilders and service providers in the field. Joint ventures meeting Jones Act requirements will support accelerating development. Some question, however, whether ambitious 2030 targets can actually be achieved.Ulstein group is a front runner. The Norwegian-based company has already provided the design for a rock installation vessel now under construction for a joint venture between Houston-based Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (GLDD) and Netherlands based Van Oord.
Offshore: Ulstein and the First U.S. Built X-Bow
Veteran Norwegian designer and builder Ulstein will, for the first time, build one of its signature X-Bow hull designs in the U.S., Maritime Reporter has learned. Edison Chouest Offshoreâs LaShip shipyard in Louisiana is keen to build, and has found a Norwegian partner to share the risk. Judging by ever-evolving Ulstein business models and Jones Act strictures, Ulsteinâs U.S. foray could lead to series production of the SX 165 offshore construction vessel. The U.S.-built combined light well-intervention and inspection, maintenance and repair vessel will be the second of the type.
China Shipyards Win US$100-Million OSV Contracts
1. COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co., Ltd., has secured a contract from an Asian company to build four Emergency Response / Rescue / Field Support Vessels (ERRVs), scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2016. 2. Two shipbuilding contracts signed by COSCO (Guangdong) Shipyard Co., Ltd, with a European ship owner for the construction of two PX121 Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) have been declared effective. The two vessels are expected to be delivered in the first and second quarters of 2016 respectively. Additionally, the ship owner has an option to render effective, within six months, two contracts for the construction of similar PX121 PSVs. Founded in June 2001, COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd, is a subsidiary of China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO).
Offshore Service Vessels
Flexible fuels, Bold designs ... Eastern Shipbuilding Group has arguably been one of the more progressive and aggressive U.S. builders of high-spec Offshore Service Vessels in recent years, winning a number of high-profile contracts for operators globally. Eastern recently delivered M/V HOS Red Dawn and christened M/V HOS Renaissance, both for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. HOS Red Dawn (H201) â now delivered â was launched on February 15, 2013. HOS Red Rock (H202) was launched April 19, 2013, and is currently at Eastern completing final outfitting, regulatory and DP-2 trials.
ITG Orders Two Ulstein PSVs
The ROC yard, China, will construct two platform supply ships of Ulsteinâs PX121 designs for the ITG Group. The contract includes an option for two additional vessels. According to Ulstein, the PX121 has become very popular among various ship-owners and investment companies, and ROC is a new yard entering the stage of constructing vessels carrying the X-BOW hull line design from Ulstein. This inverted bow leads to reduced speed loss in waves, and consequently less fuel oil consumption, and the absence of slamming is an attractive feature as the comfort for the crew is increased.
