Maritime Propulsion: The NSMV Power Play

The quest to build a series of five National Security Multi-Mission Vessels (NSMVs), which will serve as training ships for five U.S. maritime academies, has drawn a broad cadre of suppliers. The powerplant was a main focus, helping to evolve the schools from steam power plants to a modern propulsion package.NSMVs being built for the maritime academies is widely lauded as a ā€˜winā€™ for U.S. shipbuilding, an example of commercial shipbuilding practices applied to a government shipbuilding project.

Sanmar Delivers Four New Tugs

Sanmar Shipyards delivered four tugs during the final week of 2022 rounding off a year that saw the Turkish tugboat-builder deliver a total of 30 tugs to operators across Europe, the Middle East, Australia, South and Central America and Asia, along with others to its domestic market in Türkiye.The last tug to be delivered in 2022 was YENICAY XVI to Türkiye based Marintug, where it was been renamed ADAKALE by its new owners. Baleària's New High-speed Dual-fuel RoPax Eleanor Roosevelt Enters Service

Spanish shipping company Baleària has put into service its newest vessel, Eleanor Roosevelt, said to be the worldā€™s first very large catamaran Ro-Pax ferry powered by dual-fuel reciprocating engines.Designed by Incat Crowther, the 123-meter-long aluminum vessel was built by Astilleros Armon at its Gijon shipyard in Spain using modular construction techniques. It is classed by Bureau Veritas.The Incat Crowther 123 Dual-Fuel Ro-Pax is powered by a quartet of Wärtsilä 16V31DF main engines. Each of these engines produces 8800kW and drives a Wartsila LJX 1500 waterjet.

Sanmar Delivers Second of Sister Tugs to Seaspan

Sanmar delivered the second of two flagship twin sister tugboats to Seaspan.Built in 2016 at Sanmar Shipyards Altinova, Bogacay XI was renamed Seaspan Harrier by its new owners and left Turkey for its new home on Canadaā€™s west coast on 15 April. Seaspan acquired the tugā€™s sister vessel Bogacay Vlll, which it renamed Seaspan Raptor, towards the end of 2020. Seaspan Raptor which was built in 2015, was initially operated by Sanmar in its own fleet. Also like its sister, it is making the 12ā€¦

TRAktor 2500-SX Design tug Commences Operations for Svitzer

The third tug built by Sanmar Shipyards to Robert Allan Ltd.ā€™s new TRAktor 2500-SX design commenced operations on November 1st in London for Svitzer. The tug, named the Svitzer Meridian, is the second TRAktor 2500-SX in Svitzerā€™s fleet and is the third of this new class of tugs to be delivered by Sanmar to international clients in just over 4 months.Above the waterline, this class of tugs feature a raised half focā€™sle to provide an enhanced standard of sea-keeping when working in exposed waters.

RMK MARINE Delivers Tug Pair

Istanbul-based shipbuilder RMK MARINE delivered two 70-metric-ton bollard pull towing vessels, T.DAMLA-8 and T.DAMLA-9, handed over to a local client on January 31, 2020 and March 27, 2020 respectively.The RAmparts 2500-SD vessels are based on Robert Allan Ltd.ā€™s RAmparts 2500-W design, modified to suit the requirements of the owner including a significant reduction in draft and thus the ā€œSDā€ suffix is used to identify this new shallower draft class of tug.Main propulsion consists of a pair of MTU 16V4000M63L diesel engines each rated 2ā€¦

Sanmar and Robert Allan: 200 Tugs and Counting

A ceremony at Sanmar's Altinova shipyard on January 11, 2020 celebrated the commissioning of the 200th tug built by Sanmar to a Robert Allan Ltd. design -- an achievememt reached in just over 25 years' time.The milestone tug, the Boğaçay XXXVIII, is the latest evolution of the RAmparts 2400-SX design, incorporating the newly developed CAT Advanced Variable DriveTM (AVDTM) hydro-mechanical hybrid propulsion system. Qatari state-owned oil and gas company Qatar Petroleum has entered into what it says "are the largest LNG shipbuilding agreements in history to secure more than 100 ships valued in excess of QR 70 billion [USD19,2 billion] to cater for its LNG growth plans." Qatar Petroleum said Monday it had entered into three agreements with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), respectively, to reserve LNG ship construction capacity in South Koreaā€¦

Camera Systems Installed Across Wilson Sons' Tug Fleet

Brazilian port and maritime logistics operator Wilson Sons is installing internet and camera systems on its tug fleet to allow real-time visualization of operations and maneuvers, including by customers.Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) and Network Cabling project was developed by the company's innovation laboratory Tuglab, in partnership with the IT management of the companyā€™s towage division.In total, 480 cameras and local internet network will be installed. Milaha's 9-months Net Profit Up 5%

Qatar Navigation (Milaha) reported a 5% year-on-year increase in net profit to QR419mn in the first nine months of this year on account of the earnings expansion in its maritime and logistics business as well as gas and petrochem.The company's earnings-per-share was QR0.37 compared to QR0.35 for the same period in 2018. Operating revenues stood at QR1.83bn for the nine months ended September 30, 2019, against QR1.81bn for the same period in 2018.Milaha Maritime & Logisticsā€™ operating revenue increased by QR 18 million and net profit by QR 52 million, driven by lower vessel impairments and higher profit from our ports business.Milaha Gas & Petrochemā€™s operating revenue dropped by QR 14 million, with net profit increasing by QR 238 million against the same period last year.

Milaha Profit Rises in Q1

Qatar-based maritime transport and logistics company Qatar Navigation (Milaha) reported an increase in net profit for the first three months of the year.Net profit for the period under review reached 278 million Qatari Riyals ($76.4 million) which compares to 260 Qatari Riyals in the first three months of 2018, Milaha reported.The operating revenues of QAR 708 million for the three months ended March 31, 2019, up from QR 698 million for the same period in 2018 and the operating profit of QAR 214 million for the three months ended March 31, 2019, up from QAR 203 million for the same period in 2018.Milaha Maritime & Logisticsā€™ revenue decreased by QAR 24 million and net profit by QAR 12 millionā€¦

Sanmar Delivers ASD Tug to Marintug

Sanmar Shipyards delivered a 24 meter ASD Tug with 60 tbp to Marintug of Turkey.This vessel is a RAmparts 2400SX-type with a 60 tonnes bollard pull, designed by Robert Allan Ltd.It is powered by a pair of Caterpillar 3512C main engines that each can produce 1765kW power with 1800 rpmā€™s which is combined with Rolls Royce US 205 FP ASD thrusters with built-in slip clutches.
