Sørheim, Yara Marine TechnologiesHow important is material quality when selecting a scrubber system?If the intention of a scrubber installation is to operate the scrubber for the lifetime of the vessel, assuming a minimum of 10 years, then the material quality is imperative. A study performed by the American stainless-steel manufacturer ATI titled “Evaluation of Alloys for Marine Exhaust Scrubbers – Effect of Welding and a Crevice” confirmed the importance of correct material choice for scrubbers.

Khaydukov Named President of PAO Novoship

The Board of Directors of Russian tanker shipping company PAO Novoship has elected Alexey Khaydukov as the company’s new President.Khaydukov replaces the firm’s previous President, Yury Tsvetkov, who stepped down from his role on August 8, 2018, following his appointment as a Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia, Head of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport.Prior to his appointment, Khaydukov was Managing Director of SCF Management Services (Novorossiysk) Ltd.

Damen Repair Yards Earn More ISO Certifications

A number of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion yards have recently or will soon achieve new ISO certifications as part of an ongoing initiative to standardize operating procedures across the group. Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm) and Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (DSVl) have passed ISO 3834-2 certificate audits. This standard defines rigorous quality procedures for the fusion welding of metallic materials and represents the highest possible accolade in the welding industry. SHI Gives Wärtsilä "Excellent Partner" Award

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) of Korea formally recognized Wärtsilä's contribution as a provider of high quality solutions and support by giving Wärtsilä its 'Excellent Partner 2013' award. A number of different suppliers to SHI were considered for the award, which is given in recognition of excellent performance in delivering high quality products and solutions on time, with complementary world class engineering, documentation, project management and commissioning services, as well as for providing support throughout the projects.

GoM Pipeline Fire Update

Lightering operations completed, flaring operations continue on the pipeline fire. The Coast Guard & assisting agencies continue response operations for a tug and barge that struck the pipeline near Bayou Perot. After the barge was removed from the scene and taken to a secure location, offloading operations were conducted and completed at approximately 3 p.m. Friday. The crude oil from the barge has been offloaded into a separate barge. At no time was any pollution observed coming from it. As the residual liquid petroleum gas in the pipeline dwindles, the flaring operations will continue. Flaring operations use flares which are devices that burn or oxidize industrial gaseous wastes in what the Coast Guard describes as a safe, controlled and efficient manner.
