Marlink, Intelsat Renew Deal

Marlink renewed its agreement with Intelsat for supply of Ku-band capacity. Via the deal, Marlink will deliver the capacity to users within its hybrid digital network, available to customers across maritime, energy and enterprise sectors. The agreement includes the future use of satellites with a software-defined operating system, improving precision of signal delivery and a highly stable quality of service.The agreement covers global distribution of capacity within the network provided by Marlink and joint development initiatives to prepare users for software-defined satellite (SDS) services.

ONE Takes Delivery of its First 24,000-TEU Ship

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has taken delivery of its first 24,000-TEU container ship, ONE Innovation.The first of six Megamax class vessels, the 400-meter ONE Innovation was delivered by Japan Marine United Corporation’s Kure Shipyard.The vessel has a capacity of up to 24,136 TEU and will help bring economies of scale, says ONE. Parker Towing Acquires General Marine Services

Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based barging company Parker Towing Company on Tuesday announced it has acquired Baton Rouge, La.-based tank barge operator General Marine Services (GMS).GMS operates a fleet of liquid tank barges and towboats and provides services to customers in the refining industry. Seafarer Happiness on the Rise

Seafarer happiness levels are trending upward after reaching a record low last quarter, according to the latest Seafarers Happiness Index report published by The Mission to Seafarers.The survey, undertaken with the support of the Standard Club and Idwal, reports on Q2 2022 and shows that the influx of industry solutions to tackle seafarer wellbeing has finally begun to lift morale and the mindset onboard. With more vaccinations, more frequent crew changes, wage rises and new amendments to the Maritime Labor Convention (MLC), there has been a knock-on effect for seafarer optimism.
