Roll Group to Devlop Yard in Indonesia

The Netherlands based heavy cargo specialist Roll Group said it has signed a contract to further develop and open its own yard at Indonesia's Bintan Offshore Marine Center (BOMC).BOMC has offered Roll Group the opportunity to become an exclusive partner in the BOMC yard, which means that Roll Group takes care of the cranes and trailers to further develop the yard.Robin Koenis, Managing Director of Roll Group APAC: "The yard will also have a jetty access, which is perfect for our company with its land/sea combination.

Pilbara Ports Authority Shortlists Two for Port Hedland Expansion

Wilhelmsen Group Income for 2Q up by 5%

The Wilhelmsen group delivers a slight increase in top line in the second quarter, mainly supported by higher operating revenue in supply services. The positive underlying market trends are expected to continue. The total income for the second quarter was USD 222 million, up 5% from the first three months of 2018.“We note that the positive development in top line in the first quarter continues into the second. Maritime services deliver stable revenue, while supply services record improved income following a seasonal upswing and property sales gains in NorSea Group,” says Thomas Wilhelmsen, group CEO at Wilhelmsen.EBITDA was nil for the quarter.

Kalmar-Navis Intermodal Automation Solution for Moorebank Logistics Park

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, and Navis, part of Kalmar Business Area within Cargotec, have been awarded the contract to supply a state-of-the-art, fully automated intermodal terminal solution for Qube's Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP) in south-western Sydney. The order, valued at approximately EUR 80 million, includes the supply of the OneTerminal solution comprising Kalmar's automated train handling, automated yard crane and automated horizontal transportation equipment and the Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS). It was booked into Cargotec's 2018 second quarter order intake. The manual operations at the Moorebank facility are due to commence in Q1 of 2019.

Qatar, China in $6.4 Bln Battle for Australian Freight Giant

Canada's Brookfield Asset Management (BAMa.TO) is planning a fresh $6.4 billion bid for Australian port and rail firm Asciano (AIO.AX) with Qatar's sovereign fund, two sources told Reuters, widening the global battle for the haulage heavyweight. The willingness of Brookfield to raise its offer and Qatar Investment Authority's (QIA) entry as a potential co-investor underscore the immense appetite for Australian infrastructure, especially mining-exposed companies whose share prices have been battered by the commodities downturn. MUA Condemns Proposed Changes To Stevedoring Award

The Maritime Union of Australia has condemned a raft of recommended changes to the modern award covering stevedoring - including increased hours and the removal of penalty rates – proposed by the nation’s major container port companies. Patrick Stevedores, Qube, and DP World recently filed a joint submission regarding the award covering stevedoring, which is under review as part of the four-year review of modern awards by the Fair Work Commission. MUA Deputy National Secretary Mick Doleman said, taken as a whole, the raft of proposals represented an outrageous attack on the rights of workers. "This set of proposals represents Patrick, Qube, and DP World enthusiastically throwing their weight behind the federal government's assault on workers," Mr Doleman said.

Wilh.Willhelmsen Holdings Report 2013 Profit Slide

The Directors' report 2013 (extracted here) states that shipowners & technical services firm Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding group (WWH) delivered lower results for 2013 when compared with a very strong 2012. The fallback in results was due to a 7% reduction in shipping volumes and substantial sales gains impacting previous year accounts. The accounts show that operating profit slipped from $562-million in 2012 to $325-million in 2013. Wilh. Experienced lower demand for transportation of high and heavy cargoes, while auto volumes for the year were stable.

Liebherr Wins Significant Ship Crane Order

Liebherr reports that there has been a positive trend in the heavy lift crane segement, a sentiment confirmed by a number of significant contracts recorded of late, including a contract for the delivery of six heavy lift ship cranes for the German shipping company Rickmers. Four of the heavy lift cranes are type CBB 4700 with a lifting capacity of 450 tons and the remaining two are type CBB 3450 with a lifting capacity of 120 tons. The six heavy lift cranes are being built by Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH and will be delivered in 2014.

Wilh. Wilhelmsen Reports Profit Growth in Q1 2012

Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA  reports profit growth lifted by high total income and operating profit in the shipping segment. Operating profit amounted to USD 106 million for the first quarter of 2012, up 84% year over year from USD 58 million in the corresponding quarter of 2011. Total income increased 26% and ended at USD 946 million (USD 753 million). “With all time high revenue in the shipping segment, the group’s earnings improved considerably year over year. Despite a seasonally weaker quarter, we also recorded a positive development quarter on quarter,” says Thomas Wilhelmsen, group CEO of WWH. “Our shipping activities benefitted from favourable trade balance and a sound balance between auto and high and heavy volumes.

Wilhelmsen Holding Q1 2011 Results

Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA (WWH) delivered a substantial increase in operating profit year over year backed by a rebound in its shipping activities. WWH posted an operating profit of USD 57.7 million for the first quarter of 2011, up 31% from USD 44.0 million in the similar quarter of 2010 (corresponding period of 2010 hereafter in brackets). Total income amounted to USD 753.2 which is up almost 18% from 2010 (USD 639.7 million). "Compared with 2010, we have shipped 29% more cars and high and heavy cargo the first three months of the year.
