Mammoet Acquires ALE

Mammoet, the privately held Dutch company specialized in engineered heavy lifting and transport of over-sized and heavy objects, said it has signed an agreement to acquire fellow international heavy lifting and transport specialist ALE.No further details will be given until after closing of the transaction, Mammoet said.Both companies are specialists in engineered heavy lifting and transport for sectors such as the petrochemical industry, renewable energy, power generation, civil construction and the offshore industry.Paul van Gelder, CEO of Mammoet said, “Mammoet and ALE complement each other in geographical presence on all continents. Rotterdam Port Signs Pact for Maintenance of Roads, Greenery

The Port of Rotterdam Authority signed agreements with two contractors relating to what is known as the port’s dry infrastructure. One contract covers maintenance of the roads in the port and the other maintenance of the green spaces. Following a tendering procedure, Van Gelder emerged as the best choice for the road infrastructure. The green spaces will be maintained by BTL. Both contracts run for two years and an express wish has been made for them to be extended by eight years. The combined sum of the contracts comes to over 14 million euros for the first two years. The port of Rotterdam is managed by Port of Rotterdam Authority.

GAC EnvironHull a big hit with Rotterdam Port

Europe’s largest port is the latest to allow the GAC EnvironHull’s eco-friendly hull cleaning system to operate in its waters. The launch of HullWiper at Rotterdam, widely acknowledged as a pioneer in innovation and shipping technology, was marked by a panel discussion, webinar and live demonstration. The Port of Rotterdam’s Senior Manager, Peter Mollema, said the ground-breaking technology exactly aligns with Rotterdam’s ambition to be the most sustainable port of its kind. “In its 'The Global Competitiveness Report 2015-2016' the World Economic Forum has for the fourth consecutive time declared that the Netherlands has the best port infrastructure,”  he told more than 100 industry figures from the city and beyond who gathered at the Floating Pavilion or followed the event online.

Imtech Management Quits as Turnaround Stalls

CEO, CFO to step down, new CEO from inside company. The CEO and finance chief of Dutch builder Imtech have resigned from the company, as a drop in sales and weaker profit margins showed plans to restore confidence following an accounting scandal were faltering. Chief Executive Gerard van de Aast and Chief Financial Officer Hans Turkesteen were appointed in 2013 after the previous management quit over an accounting fraud in Germany and Poland that wiped millions off its balance sheet. Board member Paul van Gelder will take over as CEO in 2015. Van de Aast will retire, while Turkesteen will leave after 2015 results have been finalised.

Boskalis Expands Fleet With The Coastway

Coastway, a new 4,900 m3 trailing suction hopper dredger for Westminster Dredging Company of Fareham, will be launched today at the Merwede Shipyard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Mrs. J.M. van Gelder-Wolff, wife of R. van Gelder, chairman of the board of Management of Royal Boskalis Westminster nv, will perform the inauguration and launch of the Coastway. The Coastway, with its shallow draught and large loading capacity, has been designed to carry out on and foreshore beach replenishment, dredging and maintenance work in shallow water, which generally involves silt, sand, gravel and soft clay. Its jetwater installation allows for dredging of densely packed material. The Coastway is also prepared for the desalination of sand from sea.

New Foot/Bike Ferries Inaugurated

In mid-March the new foot/bicycle ferries Prinses Máxima and Prins Willem-Alexander were inaugurated. Two years ago, on 26 March 2002, the Queen’s Commissioner in the Province of Zeeland Mr W.T. van Gelder and the contracting shipyard B.V. Scheepswerf Damen Gorinchem, signed the contract for the construction of two new foot/bicycle ferries. The ships, which are identical, are so-called SWATH vessels (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull).
