Fincantieri Acquires Comms Equipment Supplier

Fincantieri said it has acquired a majority share in communications equipment supplier Support Logistic Services (SLS) as the Italian shipbuilding group continues its push to diversify and expand its product and service portfolio.Rome-based SLS, which produces, installs and maintens radar, satellite and radio communications systems for military and civil applications, will be added under Fincantieri's information technology and electronics subsidiary INSIS, part of the group's newborn Electronics, Systems & Software Division.

Carmanah Acquires EKTA Marine Aids

Carmanah Technologies Corporation  has completed the acquisition of the EKTA marine aids to navigation assets from Cybernetica AS of Estonia. The company had previously announced its intention to acquire the EKTA branded products and contracts on November 29th, 2016. "The acquisition accomplishes two important steps in our growth strategy," said John Simmons, Carmanah CEO. "The ETKA products will strengthen our worldwide product portfolio and allow us to provide more comprehensive single-source solutions for our marine customers. Under the terms of the agreement the purchase price will be EUR1.35 million and will be paid by way of EUR1 million in cash on closing and EUR0.35 million on the first anniversary of closing.

Improving Vessel Safety Around The Solomon Islands

The Asian Development Bank recently commissioned GMDSS specialists Dunstan and Associates and their local partner company Cruz Communications to supply and install a new GMDSS marine radio station for the Solomon Islands Maritime Safety Authority. The station is located at the Rescue Coordination Centre in Honiara and provides communication for vessels operating in the Solomon Islands region. The station uses Barrett Communication 2050 MF/HF radio communications systems and the TransOceana Digital Selective Calling (DSC) system. As part of the installation, five operators attended a training course on the principles of GMDSS and operation of the new system. The Barrett 2050 is designed for ease of use to enable operators to easily transition to the new radio system with minimal training.

L-3 Acquires International Electronics

L-3 Communications, announced has acquired the six corporations of G.A. International Electronics Group. G. A. International Electronics is a high seas marine electronics business providing sales and service of marine electronics equipment for navigation and communications onboard commercial tankers, freighters and major cruise liners operating within the United Sates and in the . The business will be combined into a single unit and renamed L-3 G.A. International and will be integrated into the L-3 Marine and Power Systems Group. Headquartered in , L-3 G.A. International has been successfully providing sales, installation, and service for a broad range of OEM navigation and communications products to commercial maritime shipping and cruise line companies for nearly 25 years.

BAE Systems Awarded Contract

BAE Systems Applied Technologies, Rockville, Md., is being awarded a $7,490,962 modification to previously awarded cost-plus-fixed-fee term contract to exercise an option for technical and engineering services for the integration and testing of radio communications systems for shipboard installation. Work will be performed in California, Md. (80 percent); St. Inigoes, Md. (10 percent); Bath, Maine (five percent); and Pascagoula, Miss. (five percent), and is to be completed by June 2003. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Air Systems Command, Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity.

Communications LLC has appointed John Julian to the newly created position of Project Development Manager and Ewan Robinson as Technical Sales Support Manager. Both John and Ewan join the company direct from Easylink Services (UK) Ltd where they held similar positions, and were instrumental in supporting Easylink's STSW in ship-to-shore communication service. They join Telaurus as the Company moves into the next phase of its international growth, having recently opened a Global Sales & Marketing Office in Bristol, UK. Their appointment reinforces Telaurus' commitment to its customers, and its intention to remain in the vanguard of maritime communications as it continues its rapid growth.
