Canada’s Ferry Industry Sets Course for Success

Our country’s past and its future are fundamentally linked to the transportation of people, vehicles and goods over our lakes, rivers and sea. Ferries have always been an integral part of Canada’s transportation infrastructure. Today, the geo-political relevance, the economic impact and the environment footprint of ferries continue to show that the sector is a crucial part of Canada’s infrastructure. Nationally, nearly 50 million people and more than 18 million vehicles travel on Canada’s ferries each year.

MTU Exhibits at Innotrans 2014

MTU Friedrichshafen, a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG, will be exhibiting its drive and service solutions at the international trade show for railway technology Innotrans from 23 to 26 September in Berlin in hall 18, booth 301. The company will be celebrating an anniversary on this occasion: Products from MTU have been driving the rail industry for 90 years. The exhibits include a historical Maybach GO 5 engine as well as current drive solutions such as an underfloor engine from the Series 1600 and a locomotive engine from the Series 4000. Automation solutions and services complete the MTU product range at Innotrans. Karl Maybach laid the foundation for rail drives of the MTU brand 90 years ago with the first high-speed railcar diesel engine in the world, the Maybach G 4a.

Stena Line Celebrates National Ferry Fortnight

Stena Line, the leading ferry operator, has announced it will be offering 15 per cent off bookings made between 14 and 28 May 2011, for travel completed by 8 January 2012 to mark the Passenger Shipping Association's third annual National Ferry Fortnight. The offer is valid for all vehicle types, "dutchflyer" (rail and sail) and foot passenger bookings, as well as all elements of booking from cabins to pre-booked meals and Stena Plus lounge access. Oil Price Rises to Impact Transport Sector

The long-term growth in the transport sector will shortly become unsustainable due to oil price increases forecast to occur in the next few years. These are amongst the conclusions of an important report by energy analysts Douglas-Westwood. Oil price rises due to concerns over a possible war in the Middle East are, according to the report authors, nothing compared to what is ultimately in prospect. The World Oil Supply Report states that global oil reserves are being drawn down at an unprecedented rate and even assuming no growth in demand it is likely that that by 2010 oil supply will begin to be constrained by global production capacity and oil will permanently cease to be abundant. Supply and demand will be forced to balance – but at a price.
