New VP at BMT Designers & Planners

Ralph Duncan

BMT Designers & Planners (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd., an international design, engineering and risk management consultancy, appointed Ralph Duncan as Vice President of Business Development. A University of New Mexico, Naval Postgraduate School and Stanford University graduate, Ralph has over 30 years’ experience in the marine engineering sector. He has worked as an analyst and senior marine engineer, and has held a number of senior roles for Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering firm Art Anderson Associates, most recently as VP Marine Design and Research.

Anderson Associates, facing an increasing workload and a growing need for additional technical depth in its engineering services hire two new team members: Stephen E. Gatz & Marc A. Derenburger. Stephen E. Gatz, PE is a naval architect working in the firm’s marine group, while Marc A. Derenburger has joined the facilities group as an entry-level mechanical engineer. Stephen Gatz brings a diverse background in naval architecture & marine engineering design, marine research and development, and marine operations.

Art Anderson Awarded Port of Portland Contract

Art Anderson Associates, a Bremerton-based multidisciplinary engineering services firm, was recently awarded a contract for On-Call Naval Architect Design Services with the Navigation Division of the Port of Portland. The Navigation Division owns and operates a fleet of vessels and barges, including the Dredge Oregon, and has retained the firm to provide naval architecture and marine engineering services in support of fleet maintenance and operations. While the firm has maintained a presence in the Portland area for many years, providing facilities construction management services on behalf of the U.S. General Services Administration, it is only recently that it has focused on doing more naval architecture and marine work in the region.

A New Look in Marine Patrol Craft

Following the success of Naval Sea Systems Command Littoral and Mine Warfare Office funded tests, Art Anderson Associates is moving ahead to design what may be the most mission-effective police and security vessel to date. Under our SBIR Phase I research project for U.S. Military insertion craft, its patented STOLKRAFT hull-form set new standards for rough water rides in five and six foot seas at full-speed. Law enforcement and security agencies, like the U.S. Navy, require high speed, stable platforms that can safely deliver their passengers physically ready to perform rescue, diving and enforcement operations, which is why Art Anderson Associates put the STOLKRAFT hull through such rigorous testing.
